With the Dogecoin price currently sitting at $.0032, for $3,200 USD, you could buy yourself 1,000,000 Dogecoins. Wow. Much wow.
People's first reaction when I bring up Doge is usually to laugh. I understand this reaction. It kind of is, in a way, a "joke" coin. I mean, let's be real, it is a cryptocurrency based on a small Japanese dog that initially gained worldwide notoriety as an internet meme on Reddit. This is not exactly the kind of prestigious birth one would expect from a real destined-to-be-huge crypto token.
But wait. If you take a second to read the story of the origin of the meme, it really is quite wonderful. A Japanese kindergarten teacher takes a picture of the Shiba Inu she rescued, one picture is really cute and funny, then the picture blows up on Reddit and the term "doge" is born via a strange and hilarious turn of viral internet events, and then somebody decides to make a coin out of it, and the coin becomes super successful.
And then the coin is used to help send the Jamaican bobsled team to the Olympics in Russia!
I mean, what in the actual heck is going on here. This story fucking rules. All this backstory makes a whole lot of sense once one engages with the Dogecoin community, which has a reputation for being the nicest, most generous, and most accepting cryptocurrency family out there.
So how about it? Buy a million Doge with me???
Well, I am not doing it just yet, but this thought always makes me smile. I first heard the phrase "Dogecoin millionaire" on a Doge enthusiast's YouTube channel. I like it. And can you imagine? If you had 1 million Doge, just watching the price go up even one cent would be enough to give quite a thrill. If Doge ever hit one dollar....well.... SEE?

Wonderful stuff as always @kafkanarchy84! I always enjoy your content, and I hope this whale-vote will help you on your way to milliondogaire status :-)
I just gifted you a @randowhale vote as part of an idea I'm calling #payitforward. As you can see from this image, my 2 $BD payment to @randowhale just turned into an increase of around $17 on your expected payout (meaning 8.5 $BD & some number of SteemPower). If you were to spend just 4 of that extra $BD to #payitforward to two other posts, you would still be ahead and could give them the same kind of boost, or maybe even more :-)
Thanks for being part of Steemit, and maybe share some whale-vote love with other folks you enjoy reading, friends who join the site, or great posts you see. Check out @randowhale's introduction (linked in the comment above) and my announcement of #payitforward to learn more.
Steem on!
PS: Thanks @randowhale

I've thought about becoming a Dogenaire, but I just can't see it reaching $1 since there's an unlimited supply

Technically speaking, isn't there an "unlimited" supply of a lot of tokens out there, including Steem?

Yeah technically speaking, but Steem has planned for inflation so that it will taper off over time. Dogecoin was designed not to be deflationary. There's a good article on it here: https://www.dailydot.com/business/dogecoin-no-mining-limit-infinite/

I think DOGE represents the less-serious more human side of cryptocurrency.
We are just people trying to give meaning to meaningless things after all, and maybe DOGE is a good reminder, that meaning can be given willingly, or it can just 'pop-up' in our everyday interactions.

Great article I enjoyed reading it quite a bit. While Dogecoin is indeed a tongue in cheek crypto currency, the coin actually has a use case even if it was unintentional. First and foremost Doge makes a wonderful micro payments system. I do not post on Reddit or many other social media sights for that matter, but having the ability to tip small amounts of money to other posters for content that you find meaningful is actually quite nice and Dogecoin works really beautifully like this.
Despite the coin's never ending supply and it's inflationary nature. Dogecoin is a very stable store of wealth; When you couple the fact that the coin has a very low volatility with small transfer fees and very fast transaction times. It is no mystery that many people take advantage of these features to shelter money they have made in the crypto sphere . I honestly think Doge is one of the most underrated currencies currently circulating and the coin intended as a practical joke really deserves a more serious look.

Very long-time doge-illionaire here. I currently have about 1.3 million, though I've only ever spent around US$200 on them.
Yes, Dogecoin started out as a joke that quickly got way out of hand, and yes, Dogecoin doesn't have many unique features to set it apart from any other altcoin… except that Dogecoin started as a joke that quickly got way out of hand!
In other words, consider the typical content of subreddits and message boards and chat channels about Bitcoin and/or pretty much all popular altcoins versus the typical content of Dogecoin's subreddits and message boards and chat channels, particularly from someone who's entirely new to the concept of cryptocurrency.

Dogecoin: Hey, check out this silly thing I just made.
Dogecoin started off not taking itself very seriously, and the community has followed. As a result, the barrier to entry to the Dogecoin community and technology is much lower than Bitcoin or most others. It's very easy to come to Dogecoin for the lulz and just think of the currency itself as silly magic internet points… and then, if and when you're ready for it, you can start learning about mining and the blockchain and all the other things that make a cryptocurrency a cryptocurrency, and then from there start experiencing with others. Heck, that's how things worked out for me, and I know I'm not alone. (And the fact that I've made much pawfit over the last couple of years by just holding these silly magic internet points doesn't hurt at all.)
I think Steem/Steemit benefits for similar reasons. If you want to ignore the whole cryptocurrency aspect and just use Steemit as a blogging/discussion platform, you can. You don't have to worry about the technology behind it in order to get a lot of use out of it.

DOGE has become my favourite coin. Not just for the charity part, but for the practical part. While bitcoin, litecoin, etherium and others are struggling and trying to solve numerous technical problems (forks, hacks, scalability, etc), DOGE has proven itself. It's been around for a long time now and it's super fast, transactions take under a minute to confirm (whether you pay 1, 2, or 5 DOGEcoins), and may take 5 minutes during a BUSY day (have you experienced how long it takes to confirm a bitcoin transaction on a busy day?) For me, that's way more practical than the other coins. Granted, DOGE doesn't add much innovation, but who needs innovation for a practical cryptocurrency? I mean it's a currency meant to be a currency, it doesn't need extra flair and signing up Samsung or Microsoft (Ethereum cough) to be successful. It works, it's fast, and that's the bottom line. I'd trust DOGE more than any other shitcoin out there with the same functionality.
Besides, who could resist that beautiful dog face?

There are a lot crypto currencies out there. I was never tempted to get into Doge. It sounds all nice about having a fun and friendly community wanting to help charities, promote etc. however I personally find it lacking in vision. Simply I cannot see how it will succeed without a clear road map.
Crypto world is changing now that more and more financial institutions are interested in the blockchain trying to find how to utilise it to speed up, improve processes and security. Were and how doge could fit in that new world of opportunities that is about be born?

the value of it, is next to nothing and that is the only thing would make me to get involved for the what if scenario., but I don't think I'm in that place yet. Maybe if they would market it better that would be the trigger for me.

So, the fact that there's no vision behind the practical acts of helping the Jamaican team, etc. is a deal breaker to you?
Or is it that good can only result from clear planning by a central authority, like a financial institution, as that's obviously the future?
I'm truly trying to understand the continuing enthusiastic participation of people who seem entirely profit-driven in Steemit, which doesn't seem to me to be as useful a platform simply for trading as many others, as a growth opportunity (even though I expect STEEM to go to the moon, it'll be quite a bit behind many other coins- but WE'RE going to colonize, not just plant a flag).

problem is Dogecoin amassed the current market cap due to 100% hype from the meme community. The coin itself does not bring anything unique to the market, the community and developers are not very active, so I do not see why this coin should increase in value in the future.. Maybe it can get some additional hype from the asian markets within the next couple of months, but just like Worldcoin which increased 580% in 17', it's soaring PURELY because of the asians buying in on altcoins without really doing any proper research. Just like we did back in 11', 12' and 13' :-)

I am not sure about this, as the market cap is still pretty high, and the meme has since flagged in popularity. That said, I do appreciate your criticisms, but see the coin as something special. Community and human interaction should never be underestimated. Time will tell whose gut is right here!

Solid blog. Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks like this. The crypto space brings the biggest group of uneducated investors with it. This group will only grow. I was researching a way to find more info about the current cryptocoins on the market. Does anyone know about: https://www.coincheckup.com This site is really helpful in my coin research. I don't know any other sites with so much indepth analysis. Check for example: https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Dogecoin#analysis For the Dogecoin Investment research report.
