Dog of the Day: Newport has chance against fragile Spurs

It doesn’t matter who will come out for Tottenham today, it will not change the way which Newport will approach this game. The Exiles are well-drilled and ready to fight till the last minute.

Newport are ready to face a premiership team for the first time since they restructured the club in 1989. Over 10,000 are expected to support them at Rodney Parade and I believe that there is chance for the biggest upset in this round.

Nearly year ago Mike Flynn accepted the almost impossible challenge to save Newport from relegation and he did it. From that time till now the Exiles are averaging 1.66 points per game which is good enough for any playoff candidate. It seems like inexperienced and young coach could produce consistent performance over a modest budget with the right mindset.

Last round in EFL they came from behind to eliminate Leeds United which 53 positions above them and today will try their best and we shouldn’t be surprised if we see another cupset.

Few key players has been rested in last league game so they should be ready and hungry for another memorable win.

Spurs should be heavily rotated for their visit to South Wales. They have been struggling with illness and injuries over the past fortnight.
With Premier League games against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal to follow, swiftly followed by the first leg of a Champions League double-header with Juventus, Pochettino is highly unlikely to consider the FA Cup a priority at this stage and might leave Spurs vulnerable with his team selection.

Another thing that should worry Pochettino is the fact that Rodney Parade is hosting rugby games as well and is far from ideal.
