On Sunday 11 June a family took their recently adopted rescued dog named Kayn, for a walk at a local nature reserve in Cape Town. Unfortunately, Kayn comes from an abused background so when a guy in a hoodie walked past, Kayn must have remembered something from his dark past and he took fright and ran away. The family searched and searched but couldn't find Kayn. The area is very rocky and mountainous so extremely difficult to find any animal. A cold front had swept in as well and Kayn would have to spend the night in the cold and rain.
On Monday 12 June, I joined a search party to see if we could find Kayn. It was wet and rainy and we searched and called for hours. We were close to giving up, when suddenly somebody spotted a flash of blond. With some coaxing and treats, Kayn came out from his hiding place on the mountain and recognized his adoptive mom. We had found him!

Yes, but in this case the dog was newly adopted and was in unfamiliar territory and they searched for hours and hours. The worry was that he had run very far away in his fright which meant he could get really lost.
