Meet our latest rescue, Bob. Graphic images!

In case the title didn't get you there are going to be some pretty gruesome images in here that I feel are important for people to see to understand the life of a homeless dog in Thailand. For the most part these animals are ignored by the communities they are in and will slowly die with no one helping them.

Thankfully a concerned neighbor contacted us and we were able to get to "Bob" before it was too late. We didn't know what to expect and approached him with extreme caution since sometimes these dogs can turn violent even though we are trying to help them.

We do not know what happened to Bob, but his injuries might be too severe for us to be able to save his leg. We are already quite confident that we can save his life though, and that is more important. If we do end up needing to amputate his leg I think it might surprise a lot of people out there how quickly a dog gets over this loss. They don't sit around and mope for very long and it only takes a little while for them to re-learn how to walk with 3 legs. They are truly resilient creatures that don't hold grudges.

Not only does Bob have horrible leg injuries, but he was also extremely malnourished and infested with fleas, ticks, and the beginning stages of mange. We will treat all of these things of course but at the moment are carefully monitoring his leg injuries as a primary focus and we are hopeful but not terribly confident that we will be able to save his leg.

Bob didn't do anything in his life to deserve this. All he did was be born in a country that doesn't have a great deal of compassion towards injured or sick strays. We got lucky, and he was not aggressive and was easily lured into kennels with treats. He is still quite afraid of people and we are working on that. I suppose that he doesn't have many reasons to trust humans seeing as how he has clearly been ignored or mistreated by them most if not all of his life.

For now, Bob is just chilling as we clean his wounds with antiseptic and hope that we got to him in time. We will know in a week or so whether or not we will have to amputate his leg. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
