The Bruno Report & The Emperor's New Shoes

in dogs •  7 years ago

I want to thank all of my many friends that have written asking about Bruno... Well, as you can see from the picture, the medicine may have some side effects. Actually, I think that although it's only been a few days, he's doing a little bit better. I got some prescription medicines (Anipryl and Selegiline), supplements- one for memory (with Apoaequorin), plus another with MSM, Glucosamine & Chondroitin, some Cannabis oil (THC free) to help with pain. Jeez- he's on more medication than I am!

All that being said, I'm optimistic. We live upstairs and when it comes time to go up, Bruno acts like he forgot how to climb the stairs... he just can't get started. Once he does, he's OK. So I figured if I put his leash on and gave it a gentle tug to get him started, he'd be alright... and it worked. The next time, I dropped the leash and he went up fine. I took the leash off and just put the collar on (he doesn't wear it in the house) and up he went. Now all I have to do is put on the collar and it seems to act like a cue that triggers his memory... damnedest thing I ever saw lol! But, like they say- whatever works.

So thanks again for all the comments from Bruno and my friends that asked about him... I really feel that it's going to turn out OK. A special thank you to my wonderful friend @silviabeneforti for sending a donation to help offset the cost (we're over $2000 on this). I just thank God (and Steemit) that I had the money to do it! I've written several times before that I don't care how much it costs when it comes to Bruno or any other friend for that matter... but when it comes to me, I'm the world's biggest tightwad. I told the story about wearing the same pair of tennis shoes for over 10 years because I'm too cheap to buy new ones. Here they are...

Well, after agonizing for an entire day over spending $44.95 on myself (when the vet told me $1500 for tests and several hundred more for meds- I didn't hesitate) I finally broke down and ordered a new pair of shoes. They came yesterday...

As you can see they're almost identical. The first pair was just over $100, so I got a great deal on the new ones- less than half... but I still didn't want to spend that much money on myself. Thanks so very much again for your concern for Bruno- he thanks you too! I'll keep you posted on The Bruno Report... God Bless and God Bless Steemit for making this possible!

I was really beginning to wonder about poor little Bruno thanks for the update Rich and please let us know of any more progress also congrts on the new tennis shoes lol yea they are indeed almost identical but sometimes its good to spend a little on yourself.

I know, but I'm a cheapskate when it comes to spending on myself... I'm old and I don't want to die with a brand new pair of tennis shoes lol!

I break down and get new shoes every once in a while. Good job on the dog!

Thanks Buddy! I showed up at my ex's yesterday with new shoes on and she said "I don't believe it... you had them things over 10 years- it's about time!" We were still married when I bought the old ones. I'd rather spend money on other people than myself. To most people having money is about how much you can get... to me it's about how much you can help other people- or dogs.

When they redid my ex's house they didn't carpet the livingroom so now she has a plywood floor so...

Glad to hear Bruno's hanging in there!

Memory is funny. When my MIL was suffering from Alheimer's, my wife got good at using all kinds of tricks to make her relax, or get into the shower, or smile. You'd mention an old relative or sing a song from a Shirley Temple movie and her mood would turn around in a second.

Obviously Bruno's collar is triggering some kind of climbing memory - like you say, whatever works!

I'm glad you treated yourself to a new pair of shoes!

I could use a good trick to get Bruno into the shower lol (he hates it!!!). The first 6 or 7 years of Bruno's life he spent being tortured by drunks. I literally took him at gunpoint- I didn't pull it, but made sure they could see it in my waistband. I told them that if they didn't give the dog to me they wouldn't like what was going to happen next. I guess they were sober enough to get the picture!

They're really nice shoes- I don't want to wear them... I don't want to get them dirty!

That must be one amazing trick! LOL! Wow! That is so GREAT how you saved Bruno! I CANNOT stand how people can be cruel to animals! They most definitely got the picture!

They are VERY nice shoes! Save those shoes for special occasions my friend! :)

I'll never understand what people do to these dogs. It's insane.

But that's the best badass pet rescue story every.

And idiots want to take out guns away ;-}

He lucky to have you that why he strong 💓
