Going To The Movies Is All About The Experience

For many of us, the great American movie theater was an iconic part of growing up. From family trips to the movies, to first dates, to matinees, and all the way to premiers, any visit to the big screen was exciting. Today however it can seem that between the Netflixs and the Hulus that there really is no place for movie theaters in our lives anymore, but the reality may surprise you.

Any movie lover will tell you that there’s no place like the theater; sure streaming services offer convenience at a low price, but lacks the charm and awe of visiting the cushy chairs and buttery popcorn of the local theater. That said, the more tech savvy of us have a higher likelihood of making visits to the movies a habit. Young adults, those aged 25-39 are among the highest demographic of moviegoers, with many of the top grossing movies in the last five years reflecting that age bracket. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Avengers series films, and Jurassic World are just a few examples of proof that cinema is not dead.

Improved technology has surged theaters into the future turning a movie trip into a unique experience. These days there are 23% fear movie theaters than there was 20 years ago; but this is not necessarily a negative. This fact may prompt us to assume that movie theaters are obsolete, but what it truly means is so much more. Today the average movie theater is much larger and boasts many more screens and auditoriums. Many theaters have gone from small operations into large scale experiences for their guests from food courts, to bars, to 3D theaters, and much more.

Though we may find comfort in streaming movies straight to our couches, there is something to be said for the experience of modern moviegoing. What was the last movie you saw in theaters?
