23rd July 2016 edition
Okay, I'm still experimenting with this Chronicles series. As @dana-edwards points out, attention scarcity is a real thing. So I'm trying to find the right balance between giving enough information to be useful but so much that it's too long to read. Bear with me, I'm working to give a daily offering of value to the community.
Trending today
On Friday night (GMT) a tsunami of a post by @xeroc about a new GUI for piston landed on the shores of Steemit. It's effects were devastating on the rest of the curation and posting landscape. Rewards for other activity were severely diluted. A happy bounty is in store for those that were fortunate enough to jump on this wave early.
Well done @xeroc for the GUI and for the huge bounty. The market has spoken loudly on this... the spoils are all yours!
A quick tip for those that do manage to vote early on a post like this. Stop voting for the day. Put your feet up and enjoy the rest of the day off. Go compose a post for the next. Go spend time with your family. You want to maximise your rewards on this post. You don't want to dilute it by voting too liberally on far less successful posts. Unless that post is another mini tsunami from @guerrint.
You would have done well to have got in early on @guerrint post of last night. Tara came back, again on a Friday, to prove her make-up post was not a one off. This time she hits the street with a vox-pop getting the public's reaction to Steemit. @guerrint is proving the Queen of the marketing firsts. Expect a spate copycat vox pops. It's good to see people getting out and about increasing the buzz around Steemit and then getting compensated for their efforts.
Today's Voting Rewards
A quick look at the Curation Rewards that came through with decent payouts today (over 1 STEEM) and an insight into how I voted and why

As I stated in yesterday's Chronicle, I got in early on this. There is a counter view to @anonymint's optimist outlook. @bacchist points out that SP interest is not compund interest. I haven't had time to analysis the validity of both view points.
Either way I'm happy with the rewards I recieved for upvoting this post. I voted on this 13 minutes after the post was uploaded. I was the first dolphin or whale to vote on it. Whales jumped in afterwards, including @smooth on of the biggest. This was a classic "early curation" play, that bore fruit.
Rewards: 2.425 SP

Imaginary is becoming a big deal now on Steemit. Even for posts not about photography, the images used are important. I often skim read posts to "get a feel" for whether it's worth reading and upvoting. Images that draw the reader in are a good way to get a reader to stay. @kristylynn has done really well here with the images she's used. I jumped in fairly late on this one. Fortunately big bad @berniesanders and @smooth voted after me. Which probably accounts for my unexpected bounty here.
Rewards: 0.947 SP

I don't get it, if you vote for bad content, it affects your previous votes?
I thought curation rewards were calculated on each post not on your average.

You have vote power, each time you vote that power goes down and dilute your rewards. It replenishes in the course of 24 hours.
