Paying It Forward - Sharing Some Steemians That Have Been an Inspiration

Steemit has become more than just a hobby, it has become a type of freelance opportunity that rewards time, effort, and hard work. The financial side of things have helped me enormously of late, especially with bills related to health and lack of work. Even for my own blog which has tracked along steadily, but never hit great heights, I have been incredibly fortunate in my endeavours here.

But this post is less about me and more about some particular Steemians who I have shared the journey with over my time here. They all represent a specific element of what it is I am trying to achieve, and as such have provided enormous encouragement, just by doing what it is they do. Most on this list I have known here for some time. One is new to me, but what they have achieved in one particular field is what has caught my eye. I will go into details in just a moment.

My purpose here is mostly related to creative writing. As such there are other authors here who have inspired me with their own writing and the success (well deserved) that they have achieved. I wanted to introduce them, one by one, and explain what it is that motivates me about their Steemit presence.

Author and Movie Reviewer

  1. @ezzy – a long time writer here at Steemit, ezzy has written many pieces that have caught my eye over his time here. My writing has improved since I first arrived here, and in part it is because of authors such as ezzy. The opportunity to dissect and analysis his writing up close, and see what works and why it works is a part of the appeal. He writes well, and writes successfully.

However, beyond his fiction career, he has branched out into movie reviews. I have tried to read through as many of these as I can. There is an art to writing a good review. He has it. I have used this education in my own book review endeavours. I wanted to give credit for that.

Humourist

  1. @meesterboom – I first met the boomster way back in the early days, but got to know him more at a short lived stint at the Fiction-Trail. He has been a constant source of encouragement for my own fiction writing endeavours here, and isn't a bad writer himself. In fact, he excels in one area in particular. An area I am trying to utilise in my weekly Ramble On blogs – humour. If you haven't taken the time to read his blogs then do so. Consistently amusing would be a fair description.

Author and Great Commenter

  1. @jedau – a positive source of inspiration to me from the very early days. We met thanks to @curie, and again through the Fiction-Trail. A writer of great skill, he specialises in an even greater talent – comments. He writes them well, he writes them long, he follows up with responses, and he loves a comment conversation. As do I. Peas in a pod. You need to know people like jedau here at Steemit, believe me.

Author

  1. @dreemit – here's a name I haven't been able to get to know as well as I would like. She writes wonderful fiction. That much is obvious to anyone who has spent time at her blog. But I was away from Steemit a couple of times and missed the beginnings of some great multi part stories she has posted. Always meaning to get back, I so far haven't. Yet she still drops by and keeps in touch. I have received many meaningful and encouraging comments in our many interactions. The consistency of effort, and the style of writing is what has stood out to me from dreemit's blog.

Podcast Master

  1. @ethandsmith – now Ethan is a new Steemian to me. We met through the Steem Engine, a wonderful and supportive group who emphasise the use of great comments (something I love, if that hasn't become obvious yet). He publishes the Steem Engine Podcast, and it is this endeavour that has caught my eye, and been an encouragement to me. Why is that? Well today I recorded and uploaded my first audiobook. It is a reading of a poetic style story I wrote recently. This is a big step out of my comfort zone, and it has been lead, in part, by listening to, and watching the efforts of people such as Ethan.

So thank you for reading, and allowing me to put in words where I am trying to go with my Steemit presence, and some of the people who have helped shape that intent. There are many wonderful names not on the list, you have my thanks also.

Hey man! Really cherish those kind words and the big "shout out"! Gosh, it feels strange as I'm in your blog that itself is peppered with pure literary talent (Check out "My Sister's Keeper" from this guy, peepz!). You are easily on this list with us and it's an honour to be in the company of giants such as the brilliant @jedau, masterful @dreemit and ultra popular @meesterboom. Humbling yet appreciated...

Bless you, my friend. Again, thank you so much and look forward to what the future brings on this life-changing platform. :)

It's always interesting to see the users you end up alongside in these posts. I had not heard of you, @ezzy, but I think that's regrettable given that I've just perused your blog, and I find your movie reviews very enjoyable. Thanks to our mutual friend @naquoya, it looks like I'll be enjoying them for the foreseeable future.

Glad to make your acquaintance. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for dropping by @ezzy. Happy to see you here. I hope I could do justice to yourself and the others on this list. And help shine a little light on the work of you all. It's not just about the votes (although those make a big difference!) - it's also the acknowledgement and sharing to others that all adds up.

Speaking of My Sister's Keeper (thanks you for the mention), a slow, but needed rework is in the planning for that. Time to see how much writer's growth has occurred in just over 12 months.

See you at your next movie review :)

@meesterboom, @ezzy and @ethandsmith are people I like a lot too here. Their work is original, authentic and inspiring. Giving a shout out to all these people is such a nice thing you did. And I'll be checking out the rest of the inspiring people you mentioned too. Always looking for great content to read and great minds to interact with.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Thank you, I was hoping to be able to help out in a way that goes beyond just the vote and it's value (mine doesn't have much) and contribute in other ways. I hope you find a couple of new (to you) Steemians worthy of a follow.

Thanks for the kind words! It's been a great pleasure to share my work with everyone, and I hope you'll keep up the good work, too!

Aw cheers for the inclusion! It's a fine list to be among. I know everyone bar ethandsmith who I will definitely check out!

Hey there @meesterboom. Thanks for checking out my blog. It's a pleasure to be on a list alongside you, and I've enjoyed checking out your blogs thanks to this post. Definitely worth a follow for the future!

Hehe, no worries. I thought the same when I looked at your blog, followed, as they say!

Thanks for dropping by :)
Thought I may make up for my piddly vote value by giving you a shout out!

This is awesome, thanks so much my friend! I agree, we need to get to know one another better- are you on discord?

Hey @dreemit! I'm so excited to find more dedicated writers, and thought, shoot, if @naquoya tagged you without knowing you super well, then you are differently worth following!

Good to see you @dreemit, thanks for dropping by. Yes I am on Discord - same user name as here. Feel free for a chat anytime. In the meantime, consider this my public acknowledgement of the value that your work holds for me, and my renewed efforts to give it it's due time. Even if it's part way through a story :)

Differently worth following? lolll, I like the way that was put, don't change it, I am definitely different and worth following haha! ;)

Oh goodness! I hope that went like I intended it haha

It's an honor to end up on this list alongside some other greats. Admittedly, I haven't heard of most of the people that you've shared about, but I assume they must produce quality content to make this list, so I'm going to make a point of visiting their blogs!

I'm certainly not a podcast master, but I have very much enjoyed hosting my podcast series, and I plan on continuing it in the weeks to come. Looking forward to more of your book reviews and notes!

Thanks for dropping by. These are some of the Steemians that got me moving in a particular direction, mostly related to fiction, but also as listed above. So to me you are a Podcast master! You've got me thinking in that direction. Seemed way too out there once upon a time. Still, perhaps it is, but I recorded my first audio 'book', as a test of how I felt recording myself. So credit where credit is due.

All the best, and thanks again.

Congrats on the first audiobook recording. I checked it out, and I think it's a great idea for the future.

It's nice to know that my work has inspired you to venture out into something new. I've enjoyed your blogging tremendously, and I believe I'm going to do a few book-related posts myself soon, once my fundraising project gets off its feet.

I'm glad you included me alongside some of these other Steemians. I've enjoyed checking out their work so far. So thank you! I'll be looking forward to your future comments. They're always appreciated.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Thanks for having a listen. I was pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. So that was a positive. I will be doing more audio recording of my stories in the future. And like I said, that idea and inspiration originated at listening to your podcast and ideas just clicked from there.

And definitely do more book review posts when you get the chance. I have a curation project The Library - that would be perfect material for that.

The Girl Who Played With Fire is on my reading list, so I'll have to come back to your review of that book once I'm finished. I've read several books so far this year, so I think I'm going to do a general overview with blurbs about each book and perhaps a rating. If there's a book that I really like, I'll do a standalone post about it.

The Library sounds like a great project.

Yes best to read the book first, although there aren't any spoiler in it. I try to talk about the story in a way that leaves key details out. But obviously some of the details are in there.

A review for the third one will come out soon (Probably in a week or two) so should give you some time to catch up, lol (says the guy who still hasn't watched The Expanse.

That's quite alright. Both of those books (Fire and Hornet's Nest) are on the shelf and in the queue, but I got distracted by Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach Trilogy, because I've been seeing trailers for Annihilation thanks to spending so much time at the theater with MoviePass. haha

I'll definitely enjoy reading your reviews eventually, so perhaps I'll give them a preliminary upvote since both reviews will be out of the payout period by the time I'm ready to read them.

Anyhow, thanks for your engagement on this thread.

oh to know that there are about 60k+ daily users on steemit and not one name including you have I knew before doing this #dolphinschool bootcamp is crazy!

I am not into fiction writing but read some fiction from time to time. I am more a crypto lover, but your reputation and the steemians you listed in your post seem pretty well established on steemit. I must have had my head in the sand all these months. Cheers on all your successful relationships here on steemit. Hope for many more to come. Thanks!

Don't worry about it. there are Steemians with similar rep to me who I still haven't seen before. i can't understand it either, but I guess it's becoming a big place. Which is where #dolphinschool comes in handy to help learn the tricks and techniques. Some i know, but not necessarily in a coherent enough way to make a strategy with it. So we are all students here.

Thanks for dropping by.

Nice post! Well done. You fulfilled the assignment perfectly, rolling your intended target into a list. Great job with having your work links at the end, something I need to get better about. Great preview image too. Now for the critique. I'd like to see more use of formatting to creates some energy between white and filled space, double spacing, breaking up paragraphs, using some headers, subheaders, italics, the quote tag might be good, with a quote from one or two of the profiles. Also, images from them might be nice. Again, overall, an excellent post. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know these things, and I will take all these points on board. The main thing to me is the post looks pleasing to the eye of the reader, so that is important to me.

Talk about paying it forward...

Justified

Talking about visually pleasing. Have you thought about using 'justify' to make it so? Its one of my fav markdown tricks to enhance the viewing pleasure Sorry yes its a markdown trick. It looked much more impressive on my phone but on my computer you can't see the difference I will see if I can edit it and make it more obvious. It works much better on larger paragraphs so it would depend on your writing style but from above it could look better but each to there own, I'm waffling now to make it obvious.

Not justified:

Not a huge difference in these sentences but in paragraphs it can make a huge difference.

P.s loving #dolphinschool so far

Sorry, I can't quite determine what you mean by this comment. Are you referring to Justified as in how it's used in typecasting? I appreciate the comment, just may need some gentle guidance :)

And if it's a markdown trick I have yet to learn it, so I am all ears!

And yes, the interactions and feedback are a big help.

I'm with you now! Sorry for my slow uptake.

And very helpful, thank you.

I agree, it's a nice post. For you and a couple of the others, I'm being very nitpicky. It will be easier as we move into some slightly more challenging assignments.

I don't mind nitpicky in the slightest. I'm here to learn and to grow. And that often takes being pushed. Thanks again.

Don't forget to leave room for your artistic integrity. You can tell any coach or teacher to take a flying leap if they overstep, including me.

That is a good point, and I've taken it on board. I can often lose sight of that in my attempts to learn and grow. Thanks for the reminder.

And yes, on review I think headers for each of these Steemians is definitely in order (at the least).

Its always great to find people that has helped you along the way and be able to interact with them.

Steemit is a great community to know others, explore and meet inspiring people like you. :)

The place has grown so much that some voices can become obscured, even supposedly well known ones. We just can't see everything there is to here. I thought this may be a way to put a short spotlight on these particular Steemians who have helped me and maybe introduce them to a new audience. Thank you :)

You're welcome Scott, yes it's quite a lot and it's amazing! There are a lot of great people here indeed.

Beautiful post, and even more beautiful intention. I love how you are helping people on Steemit get a bigger following, supporting them.
I am new here and my intention with my blog is to inspire. I hope that with my content I'm able to get people to think and to hopefully gain something from them.
If you are interested please follow me @actualised .
Thank you.

Thank you for dropping by and leaving a great comment. It is a part of the Steemit game that I like compared to other social media sites. There does seem to be a better function grass roots support structure here.

Definitely start with the right mindset, understand things don't happen overnight. It is work, but if you enjoy it then it doesn't have to become hard work. I wish you every success.

I am in #DolphinSchool with you! Great start so far. I will have to check out your inspirations! It's always nice to share the journey with good folks and I have a few in mind that have encouraged and inspired me as well! I look forward to checking out some more of your blog and sharing the Boot Camp experience with you.
Steem On My Friend!

Good job! This is working! I'm really excited.

Thanks for dropping by and letting me know. I really appreciate it. Please do check them out, especially if you are into these subject matters discussed. I'll be visiting you shortly, all the best.

I am in #DolphinSchool too. Many thanks for the fantastic suggestions for "Paying it Forward!"

I know what I'll be reading tonight...

Kudos!

Thanks for dropping by. We're all learning here, me too. That's the magic of Steemit, I believe - the incredible value that exists on the platform, and our ability to show our appreciations in ways beyond just a vote.

Awww man! The hits just keeps coming, don't they? :') Supremely honored to be part of a list that includes my bros @meesterboom and @ezzy, and my sis @dreemit! We're all number 1! Looking forward to getting to know @ethandsmith in the coming weeks. If he's on the list, then I definitely trust he's awesome!

Peas in a pod indeed! It has been fun sharing a pod with you, mate, and I do hope that we get to ascend side-by-side as well. Though I know that you'll be moving on up at a much faster rate haha! It's the people who support us that are worth keeping. No matter what happens, I'm definitely the leading Naqer for sure!

I think you misspelled one tag.*

Worthy inclusion on that list. The Library project seems to mostly draw from newer or lesser known authors (although I keep an eye on you just in case), but in the meantime I thought this may be a way to share your work, as well as the others here. Hope I did you all justice.

And yes, that tag was butchered nicely by a tired writer. Thanks for pointing that out.

You not only did us justice, you... hmm.. Yup, you did us justice :/

Thank god for that. At least I spelt your name right this time!

HAHA!! Just for that I've resteemed this!

Thank you sir :)

Thank you!

What a great list of steemians to follow and emulate. I recently met @ethandsmith also through @thesteemengine which I love. It was our first community engagement and it showed us more about the community aspect of Steemit.

Hello, I appreciate the comment. This is a core list for me, plus a new recent addition. I have learned a lot from these Steemians, and continue to do so. The community engagement that you rightly mention is a key element of how these people operate, at least in my experience. I didn't experience that outside of Steemit, but I do here. And I want to see that remain, and even flourish. This is my little bit to aid in that endeavour.

Gotta love the insane comment conversations with Jed XD

And I think "consistently amusing" describes Boomy perfectly.

goatsig

Insane? More like in-ternal posts inside comments, amirite?

This is only a problem when there isn't a threading limit set and one is trying to read a column of text that is the width of a thumb XD

goatsig

Don't you just love those comments. If we keep going, we could get there soon ourselves. But lets leave the long text to the right moment.

Endless comments. And I'm as much to blame. Especially when a pun war begins :)

Oh dear XD But fun!

goatsig

Wow... Quite the resource of valuable, talented people you've provided for us here. I'm interested in doing some fiction too, eventually, to complement my art and poetry, so I've saved these names for later perusing ;) So many people to get to know, yourself included! Thank you, dear fellow #dolphinschool classmate ;)

And thank you again for your kind words on my own post, which I hope you don't mind me plugging here ;P ...:
3 Artists/Writers Worthy of My (and Your) Follow!

Definitely check these names out if you get the chance. There's lifetimes of Steemit experience right there on this page, so lots to learn through observation. No problem on the link (although don't do that outside of these #dolphinschool posts - people can get very upset). But for this school we're all helping each other out and learning as much as possible, so an eventful 10 days in front of us.

This post is beautifully presented. Well done!. Ps in #dolphinschool also.

Thank you for your feedback, I do appreciate it. Hello fellow student, I'll be around to see your post shortly :)

Gosh really nice work - I'm impressed :)

Thank you, glad you liked it :)

I didn’t have time to read this until just now, but it’s really lovely. I love the personal details about each of the artists, and the “headlines” you’ve created to help categorize them. It’s fun and engaging! Excited to keep reading during bootcamp!

Time is something we won't have much of over the next 10 days. So no problem, but thanks for catching up on it. And I'm glad you found it useful. There is lots to learn about so much here at Steemit from those listed above.

Excellent choices here, and I couldn't agree more about their special qualities. You already know I rank you up there with them, and loved My Sister's Keeper.

These are some of the many people I have come to appreciate. If I included them all it would make for a long post :)
Thank you for reminding me about My Sister's Keeper - I do remember your constant encouragement. Perhaps, now that I think about it, I should have included you in a section for encouragement.

No worries - as you said, there are too many people to mention them all. My visits to everyone are sporadic at best, so I never expect special mentions.

Meeting so many steemians via the @dolphinschool is amazing. Great post @naquoya... generous words for your inspirations. Following and upvote.

I pray these awesome posts are easier to find on the PC... I am just now coming across it on my iPhone. I’ve been inspired by your posts in #dolphinschool ... and I am also learning more about the people you mentioned as well. @meesterboom .. how did I ever not know this funny guy existed until this #dolphinshcool??? how does one slip in and out of Steemit and not see @ethandsmith of whom is even on SteemEngine (so am I but it’s the dang phone thing again figuring it out) ... the ocean is big and I need a switchboard operator to call upon ! ☺️

I'm working hard to meet more writers here on Steemit, so I'm so excited I found your post! I'm fairly new to sharing my writing, so this has been such a great place to learn and have support!
