Week 23 (January 2019)

Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will start seeing domains everywhere without even trying.

If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.

Without further delay, here are the domain names that I found in the wild recently...

The Domains

Not really a theme today, just another handful of domains I caught in the wild the past week or so. We've got a few .coms and a .net. I was actually able to grab 2 domains with one photo though! See below!

GuardWell.net

The first domain up is GuardWell.net. This domain belongs to a storage company that also has a gift shop??? I don't know, I'm guessing this is one of those things where the owner had 2 businesses and is trying to combine them.

As far as the domain goes, it's not my favorite but it's okay. It is an exact match of their name, but it's not .com it's a .net. There is already a security company that owns the .com so I don't think they have a chance of ever getting that domain. Which then makes you wonder why they didn't choose a name that would have allowed them to get a .com?

CityLivingSeattle.com

Next up is CityLivingSeattle.com with a bonus... HomeSourceMag.com. These domains belongs to small business free local published magazines in the Seattle area. CityLivingSeattle.com has a focus on real estate, local lifestyle and of course advertising. HomeSourceMag.com is similarly a free local magazine but as you might guess is focused solely on real estate and property listings.

I like CityLivingSeattle.com although it's a bit long, it's an exact match of the magazine's name. I'm not as big of a fan of HomeSourceMag.com although arguably they have a domain that doesn't restrict them to Seattle only. Both of these domains would be MUCH better without the last word in their domain (CityLiving.com and HomeSource.com).

SeattleHouses.com

Finally, we have SeattleHouses.com. This domain belongs to a Seattle real estate brokerage and property management company. Their actual business name is Real Property Associates Inc.

This is an interesting domain name. It's not an exact match of their company name, but it's actually a very good pair of keywords for the business they're in. For that reason I really like this domain for them. They also own RentSeattle.com which is another great one.

Well, that concludes this edition of Domains in the Wild.
