Week 43 (June 2019)

Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will start seeing domains everywhere without even trying.

If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.

Without further delay, here are the domain names that I found in the wild recently...

The Domains

It's been a minute since our last Domains in the Wild... I've got to get back out there and hunt for some! With my recent move I have a lot of new area to explore and I'm sure there are a ton of domains to be found. I have a few from Seattle to share today as well as one that I found recently in my new town. Enjoy!

TheBellinghamHerald.com

The first domain up is TheBellinghamHerald.com. This domain belongs to the local newspaper in Bellingham, Washington of the same name.

This domain is alright, it's a match of their name so that's good. It's a bit long, but I think a lot of newspaper's have longer names so it's fine.

OneGM.com

Next up is OneGM.com. This domain belongs to a commercial landscape management company in Nampa, ID. I'm not sure what this truck was doing all the way out here in Seattle, maybe they have a branch out here?

The domain is okay, but I'm not a big fan of combining words with letters or acronyms. In this case the GM stands for Grounds Management and I can see how OneGroundsManagement.com might seem long. OneGM.com is short... However, OneGroundsManagement.com is an exact match of their company name and they don't own it! It's actually available to hand register! They should own this domain too!

SeattleSewerInspection.com

Finally, we have SeattleSewerInspection.com. This domain belongs to a sewer inspection company located in... you guessed it, Seattle.

The name says it all. Their business is exactly what their name says, and they have the exact match domain in .com. What's not to like? Obviously a shorter domain would be nice but this one fits very well for now.

Well, that concludes this edition of Domains in the Wild.

One grounds management doesn’t own their name?!!!!!

Buy it and sell it to them!

I'm surprised by that too! They need to get it while it's only the cost of registration, because as you mentioned someone else may see it as an opportunity... but it won't be me! I don't play that game in domaining! Thanks for the comments @dfinney!
