She is charged with conspiring to hire hitmen to kill Florida State law Prof. Dan Markel, her former son in law. The two hitmen have already been convicted, as was Donna’s son Charlie Adelson (who participated in the plot) and his ex-girlfriend Katie Magbanua (who was the go-between connecting the Adelsons with the killers). Dan was a friend of mine, and I believe Donna is guilty. I expect a conviction, but obviously we won’t know for sure until the trial happens. There is also a small chance of a plea bargain. But I consider that highly unlikely. Given Donna’s age, any substantial sentence is essentially a life sentence (which is what will happen if she gets convicted). The state will not and should not agree to a very short sentence where Donna can quickly get out on parole.
