What is it? Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that our brain produces to nudge us into doing stuff. It’s an addictive chemical but in a good way. By increasing dopamine in your system, it can help you stay focused, productive and motivated.
Having a constant supply of dopamine in your system has a few other good benefits:
• It can help you lose weight
• It makes you feel more alive
• It can improve your memory
• It counteracts depression
• It helps you resist impulsive behavior
• It helps you avoid Parkinson’s disease
Here’s a few ways to boost your dopamine levels.
Listen to music 🎶
If you listen to music you really like, the brain releases dopamine as a response.
Discover new things 👀
Dopamine production is triggered when we find something new and exciting in front of us.
Eat right foods 🍌
The building block of dopamine is tyrosine, so make sure that you have enough of this protein in you.
Here are some common foods that have loads of tyrosine:
• Almonds
• Bananas
• Chiken
• Chocolate
• Eggs
• Green tea
• Watermelon
• Yogurt
Exercise often 💪
Physical activity is something your body craves. When you exercise, your brain releases chemicals like serotonin, endorphins and yes, dopamine. The great thing is even non-strenuous exercise like taking the dog out for a walk or climbing some stairs can help increase dopamine levels.
Make stuff 🎨
It can be as simple as taking up a creative hobby like photography, crafting, auto repair or drawing.

When meditating, you do nothing physically but in your mind you’re trying to sort out your thoughts. Whether you meditate, pray or do simple self-reflection, all these activities are linked to increased dopamine levels.
Most of the things I mentioned above are actually activities that also make you more productive, since that’s essentially what dopamine does.
