[DOTA2]Patch 7.15 review: Challenge for Chalice and support for SumaiL

in dota2 •  7 years ago

On time and as expected, patch 7.15 came out today and it changes the game fundamentals instead of the heroes. Once again, a new patch is activated in the middle of a Dota Pro Circuit event, GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor. It is expected for the participants of the event to be unhappy, but some teams might be significantly less unhappy compared to others.

Biggest changes
Bounty Runes now spawn every 5 minutes
Bounty Runes now grants gold to each player (40 + 3/min)
Solo offlane when outnumbered gets even harder. A huge buff for pub players because they are now accustomed to the most popular formation in the competitive scene: two top, one mid and two bottom.

After the offlane pull nerf in 7.14, solo offlane seemed almost too difficult and people were wondering how professional players would do it. EPICENTER XL showed that the simplest solution to this was to not solo offlane if the offlaner would be facing more than one enemy hero.

Despite that, Chalice kept playing position three as the suicide lane, and he won the Major. His teammates were very good, but he was also a superstar. He made a strong counter-argument with his achievement last week, maybe his way to play offlane is right and everybody else was wrong.

As a player who doesn’t mind dying a lot in his games, Chalice is used to losing money so not being able to get extra money from Bounty Runes shouldn’t make much difference, but he will still slow down. It will be interesting for us and for other professional teams to see if fy will start taking care of his offlaner or not.

On the other hand, there are teams with tremendously dominant position three players. If I were to explain PSG.LGD’s player formation, I would divide them into two carries, one offlaner and two supports, but for other teams, I might divide them into three cores and two supports.

From all teams that play with three cores and two supports, Evil Geniuses are the most established. For other teams, it is usually clear who the position three player is, but it is not so clear whether Sumail plays position three or two. The only clear thing from Evil Geniuses is that all the last-hitters from every lane will get plenty of farm.

Coincidentally, Evil Geniuses are also competing in GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor. Teams like Evil Geniuses are the ones that are hurt the least from this nerf, so this change might indirectly help them in this event.

Bounty Runes now fully fills bottles
Bottles heal rate increased from 80/40 HP/MP to 100/50
