What do you think about 'Deepfake' technology?
Greetings Steemians!
We are living in an era where technology has made it possible to create the things which were hitherto considered impossible or we have heard about them in science fictions only.
Deepfake is such an innovative technology in which Artificial Intelligence can superimpose existing images and videos of persons onto the source images and videos and can generate a fake images and videos in which real person would be seen doing the things which they never did in reality. It means by the help of this technology one can make fake videos of leaders (or anything) in which they would be seen doing things that they never had done.
So, it can create fake videos which would become impossible to segregate from the real one.
So, what is your opinion about this technology?
- It seems very scary. It can create a state of chaos and disorder.
- It is a very interesting technology which can be used for the benefit of humanity.
- I have no idea.
- I don't care.
- I am keen to know about it.

I think that at first it has been the same with each "groundbreaking" type of evidence: photography, fingerprints, DNA, etc. Ultimately , all technology can be manipulated. Claims will also be made that exceed what the evidence purports.
We just have to be reasonably skeptical of any single source or piece of evidence and look for what does and doesn't line up―unfortunately we cannot count on everyone to do that, and sometimes the gullible will react as a herd before cooler minds prevail.

I think technology is just a tool. It is neither good, nor bad but the use of it makes it good or bad.

I legitimately don't know what the merits are to its existence, positive-wise. I only foresee bad things coming from this technology.
That being said, digital items are even more impossible to regulate / ban than physical ones, so we shouldn't waste our breath on trying to control it.
Instead, we should focus our efforts on educating & perhaps even developing software that can detect deepfakes.
The world is about to be a very, very, odd place...

This is very scary. I have already seen the video of the AI that only need a sample of your voice to sound just like you. A guy used it to type out messages for the AI to say to his mom on the phone and she never knew it was the AI talking and not her son.
