What If...

The ongoing cryptocurrency crisis is taking its toll. A lot of the smaller coins and tokens are being considered as dead, because their value dropped below $0.01.

Imagine that Steem won't survive the bloodbath, and will lose all of its value.

Would you stick around if there were no monetary rewards anymore? Or would you leave and never look back?

You will find out how to submit your answer and earn a contest entry below.

How To Enter?

To vote and to be eligible to win one of the prizes, you need to click the link underneath the given answers you will find at the bottom of this post. You'll then be redirected to the dPoll app. Log in with Steemconnect to cast your vote.

Once you've voted, you can leave an additional thought or comment. It would be very interesting to hear your motivation for voting for a specific answer, not to mention it would add value to your comment, but leaving an additional comment is NO requirement to enter the contest.

Your votes (and comments) will be added to the comments section of this post by de dPoll app.

If you cast a valid vote through the dPoll app before this post reaches payout, you earn an entry in the contest and have a chance to win one of the prizes.

Its about the community for me, not the money.

I also don't make anything on facebook and I still have an account so why leave steemit even if it gives me 1 cent? :D

I would leave and waste my time on Instagram cuz I can at least get some girls

Not a valid entry. Please read the post on how to answer the question.

To be perfectly honest, I think the question is quite out of our hands! If STEEM tanked completely, there wouldn't be any revenue or incentive for the people to keep the servers or the witnesses alive. In the short term, most things would stay... but, little by little things would drop off... but servers/dapps and then users.

However, I think I would stay in the short term... it is an interesting place to talk and see other's views on things, and the communities are nice! But, in the long term, I think I would eventually move on... both out of self-interest (Steem does take a bit of time, and I'm not naive enough to think that I'm so idealistic!) and loss of service.

Of course you are right. The system would be the first to collapse. And in the end people would leave and then might find each other again on other platforms. Many are on other platforms already...

Voted for I would leave..

I already have my own blog where I write and don't get paid. I don't need another platform to do that.

hi @movievigilante

wouldnt you consider steemit a great way of getting extra exposure and a bit of traffic to your own blog?

Value is more than monetary - I still think that steem is a revolutionary system, and if it lost 'monetary' value - like becoming illegal to trade for us dollars, I think we could still create 'barter' communities where we exchange non-monetary value. This includes information, friendship, advice, condolences, encouragement and photographs!

I like the way you think :0)
I wish it would be like that, but I'm afraid it would only happen if all the other reward-based platforms would lose their monetary rewards too...

that's a real spirit @ecoinstant :) good to see you're still around buddy

Voted for I would leave..

If Steem has no monetary value, then it doesn't really have the potential which brought me here in the first place. That is, a cryptocurrency that can actually build a network of users and economy, be user friendly etc.

Voted for I haven't made up my mind yet..

It depends on how many people would stay, I guess. No point blogging for a ghost town, right?

Voted for I would stay..

The monetary value is of less concern to me than the functionality of and community on the site.

The fact is I came to Steemit for the crypto, to learn about it and to earn some, but I stayed for the communities and how they work together.
Don't get me wrong! I like to be rewarded for my efforts but I believe with the Smart Media tokens coming out, this will give a means of value exchange.to give you that reward for effort.
That's my thoughts at this time but who knows in the future.

Not an entry, just my thought.

If steem loses all its value, that would mean witness will get 0 return and -100% roi so they will turn off thr servers and blockchain dies. People who opting to stay wont have anywhere to stay.

I know - it is something I only thought about later :0)

I haven't voted by I would leave.

You see, most people, no matter what they are saying, would leave Steemit if there were no monetary rewards, I know there's some Steemians out there who'd still stay, but most of them would leave in an instant.

  • Why?

Just look at these prices. Along with the decline in value, people are starting to produce less content. They lose motivation. Obviously because it doesn't feel "worth it" to produce content when they earn 1 dollar instead of 10.

Another thing is the fact that everyone joined Steemit in the first place because they got the opportunity to earn crypto. If they stay for the money or not, that's entirely up to them, but most of them are active because they still have felt that they have the opportunity to earn.

That being said, I would leave. However, I wouldn't leave within a blink of an eye and never look back. I would leave and take as many people with me as possible. I would try to continue my efforts elsewhere, and I would've loved to continue my journey together and side by side with many of the Steemians I consider to be my friends.

Steemit is not the end of Steem, but if Steem reached 0 and never came back, I'd look for other options to earn crypto and ultimately, at some point, support my living during the time I could support people from every corner of the world simultaneously.

I'm with you on that. I mean... if other platforms would survive, I would probably move their way. But I would also try to take as many people from this community with me.

Votado por me quedaría. .

¡Hola @Simplymike! me quedaría, hay bastantes compañeros de gran corazón con los que me gustaría seguir compartiendo, bendiciones y muchos besos.

How do I know if my vote logged, after steemconnect login it sent me back to the poll page, was I supposed to vote again? the number did not seem to change.

I voted again, this time it looks like it worked since I did not make that post below. should I delete this one?

I don't stay for the money; I've never cashed out. But I came for, and stay for, the potential money. I enjoy the many benefits of this versatile blockchain so I might stay, but if the potential monetary gain became definitely zero forever, I'd have to rethink it.
Luckily, I doubt that will ever be the case. It would be really hard to tell if that was the case unless somehow the entire chain ceased to function. Perish the thought.

Voted for I would leave..

I am primarily on steem as a money earning opportunity; there are plenty of other platforms I could be sharing my content on that would make me nothing. I don't expect to make much, but something is better than nothing and if it became nothing I don't see a reason to stay.

I would probably leave, but look back here from time to time.

I like to play steem Monsters and I like all the people that I have met here. So I will be here as long as a few of them are around.

Yeah, it all depends on how many people disappear. .

yup I powered up 100 more steem today and while it is low I think I will be buying more soon. I am a small fry so I like dips to buy more just thinking this will grow in the future.

Congrats on the power up, and glad to hear you are one of the people who still believe the Steem blockchain has a bright future..

Posted using Partiko Android

Id most likely stay but just post less. Its really become a habit plus I get loads of crypto news from it which is cool :) even if steem is $0.01 its still more than im getting any where else so unless it actually starts to cost me to use it, like i need to buy steem to use it ill still be here

True, even at $0.01 it's more than you get on 'regular' social media. But there are so many other reward-based platforms by now, there would probably be places whee you could earn more...

I would stay, it’s all about the community. And even without the crypto, this is still a better version of facebook.. ;-)

Voted for “I would stay”, because of the community. I’ve met a lot of lovely people around here. And without the crypto value, this is still just a better version of Facebook!

I agree. I've met so many amazing people here... it would be a shame to leave that behind

I voted and left a very long comment, but it isn't showing, does the app just take a while?

No, for as far as I know it should post the vote and comment to steemit pretty quick..

oh, I voted, wrote a really long comment and then it asked me to log in via steemconnect, and I did, but then once it connected it just reloaded the poll, looks like it didn't record my vote. I will do it again but figured useful to know if your testing the app :)

EDit: Re-did it, signed in via steemconnect first, and it worked, so i think you may need to log in before it prompts you to, as if you wait until it gives you the option, it loses your comment/vote

I'm quite sure we will all leave then. Just because almost everyone will leave. So there won't be anything to stay for.

I think even the people that say that they are not for the money here will move on to something else to digg for gold.

@crypto-econom1st, thanks for your comment, but the whole idea was to test out the dPoll app. Only votes casted through the app are considered as valid

Again I was too lazy.
Or actually don't have enough time 😥

I clicked on the Dpoll link but didn't see something to vote/choose. So then I figured lets just answer your question.

That's weird. I tried it a couple of times, and it worked fine, both on my laptop and on my phone...

Voted for I would stay..

But my usage of the platform would change.

There is a lot more to steemit than just the pay outs. The community here, and the groups that have grown from it, are as much as a part of steemit as the pay outs. They are dropping off, as is the user base. I feel like a lot of people have said they would stay, but aren't being realistic about it. Right now, the money drives the platform, so without it, the communities would need to work hard to survive. The writing groups for example, provide contests with prizes, but they also hold regularly writing challenges with no prizes, there is a step away from the money aspect, and most contests now pay out in monster cards.

I feel like the way people use the platform has already changed, and there are a lot of effortless posts from people trying to soak up the last of the funds. If the platform was to lose monetary value, that wouldn't mean it had lost its value entirely. As the payouts drop off, I can only hope the massive flood of paste posts dry up, which would increase the average "value" of each post in terms of what people can get from using the website, which in turn could help bring some monetary value back, but it will never be the same.

I will stay, but I won't use it the same. I will still take part in all the same contests, hopefully still run my own, but I will chose another platform to invest some of my time in, and post the same fiction there.

(although i now realise you are only asking this to test the app and this is somewhat beside the point lol)

No, it's definitely not beside the point. I was indeed just testing the app, and joining a contest to get the most vote on a dpoll, but I didn't ask this question just because of that. I am genuinely interested in the answers that are given.

I completely agree that without the monetary rewards, the quality of the posts would probably go up, and the spammy posts would completely disappear.

And although I plead guilty when it comes to offering (monetary) prizes in contests, I would really like to see the mentality change. What happened to joining contests and playing games just for the fun of it?

Not so long ago, I played the 'name a band using only emoticons' game with my friends on Facebook, just for fun. We kept it going for days.
I tried to do a similar thing here, just a game for fun, but it didn't work at all. That's such a shame...
I guess if money would be no longer involved, things like that could change...

Voted for I would stay..

Im on Steemit not because of money, but to build influence and help crypto community to grow around me. So lower prices means cheaper "influence". So I will stay here regardless of the current price :)
