The Horseman - last steps

in dr •  6 years ago  (edited)

Do you remind my horseman ?
Let's see the raw begining of it again... ^^

The horseman.jpg

So after the inking, started the coloring !
With watercolors, I always start with the lightest tones, and then add layers of darker tones step by step.

The horseman 5.jpg

This drawing is difficult for me because there is a light background, then a dark second plan, and at least the horseman itself with a lot of details.

The horseman 6.jpg

Now, let's begin the details for the horseman :
The horseman 7.jpg

Now, it's near of the end of it... It needs to be added the last shadowings on the horse and the horseman, and to finish the dark second plan, especially with the trees on the left and with shadows on the ground.

And here is the drawing finally ready for the chapter :

This was well done. I'm impressed by the amount of detail trying to add depth with colors. I'm never goo at water coloring so artists that are good at using the media will usually impress me. I think what made this post worth exploring further was how you built anticipation with each process post before.

Well, I'm far to be a réal spécialiste of watercolor, in fact I just learn by myself and try to improve from my mistakes ! And yes, indeed, watercolors for me make me need to think some time before starting coloring, about the strategy I will have to apply, regarding what I want to render (and from some pictures I have somtimes for inspiration or model).

You could have fooled me if you claim to be a specialist. I appreciate stuff that I have no mastery in because they come off as new to me. Your post just reminds me I lack effort especially the part where you mentioned learning by yourself :P

Do you illustrate for books as a living? you have the skill for it :D

No, unfortunately, I have completely another kind of job... But thanks a lot to think that I could be a professional illustrator, there can't be a greatest compliment !
In fact, I began a story here, exactly in the idea of an illustrated book, you can begin to read here the first chapter : https://steemit.com/story/@djacbaweur/the-great-gardens-of-the-god-of-worlds-1, and then follow the other chapters on the blog !

Yes, I checked that post before finishing reading this current post. I figured it was a serialized content so I immediately went on back reading some posts of yours. You would make a fine story illustrator with your current outputs.

Beautiful work, @djacbaweur <3 I love the step by step and the final picture is superb ! Great motion and wonderful colours and the detailing is amazingly done <3 This is spectacular work * ___ *

upvotes and resteems

Wow ! Thanks spider ! for the details, it's just that I can't do it in other way... I just need the details !

Nice colours, especially on the green and yellow background. It's getting close to the finished line now :).

And the finished line is crossed now ! ^^

I like the way you're colouring it, the movement also is very nice, looks like its charging to the viewer :).

It's exactly the idea, you got it ! ^^

Thanks a lot for the community, I'm very honored that my drawing was chosen. It gives a lots of confidence and motivation to go on here on Steemit ! So, yes, I think I'll have a great day :)

Beatiful work! :D And your action pose is great, really strong. My favorite part is photo 2, where you can see all of those ink details on watercolor base ^^

Thanks kristyglas ! Maybe now, I would have liked to get the horseman a little bit more leaned on the horse, to get more danger from him. For the ink details, next time I will post all the steps in the same post, It will be more clear this way !

Cool, I followed, so looking forward to that :D

Wow @djacbaweur, 886 upvotes and growing, awesome!! :D.

Yes, I'm amazed ! And I have to say it out and loud, it's thanks to @scrawly ! :D

Haha no no, I keep telling you, it's all thanks to your own hard works.

🤗

Come oooon ! If you didn't do anything, I would have still 3 votes here :D

I love how you have shown the build up of layers- especially how to build the light and then the shade. I would never have guessed where in the process to add the inking.

This is a stunning piece, and I second what one of the other commenters said- you'd make a great book illustrator! E x

Thank you for your kind words ! And again, I'm really touched that you can think that I could be an actual illustrator :)
Actually, I'm doing here kind of a illustrated book, that was my first idea, beginning here : https://steemit.com/story/@djacbaweur/the-great-gardens-of-the-god-of-worlds-1

Great post! I wish I had the patience to draw! Every time I see some amazing art I want to go and draw myself but end up rushing it all and it ends in a mess! Thank you for sharing your stages of this drawing and it has inspired me to keep persevering!

I'm so glad that I give this inspiration, that's the best ! In fact, I did a lot of attempts myself, always disapointed, but still trying again, and yet never totally happy of the result. Even for this drawing that everybody seems to like, I think I could have done better, in particular with the horseman who could be more leaned on the horse... But it's only this way that I can improve ! Thank you for your comment ! :)

Well I think you did a great job, and you didn't give up which is the main thing!

What a transformation! It must have taken you a really long time to get that done but step by step, you made it.

I really love the outcome of your work, its nothing short of amazing!!

Wow, thank you ! ^^

You're welcome.

Congratulations @djacbaweur!

Oh, nice to know such rankings ! I will see more into that !^^

I can see the horses muscles pulsating, I can feel the tension in his sword arm! The lines and light show so much movement and power!

Thank you for showing your process, I love to see how it starts and in the middle too : )

Thanks for your nice word, it gives a lot of motivation to go on ! :)
(in fact, I was not so satisfied about the arm, you put my mind at rest about it now^^)

Good! I am no expert but it makes my arm tired just looking at the effort he is putting into it!

I'm loving this step by step! You said it will be ready for the chapter - is it an illustration for a book and are you a book illustrator? This makes me want to get back into my artwork, it was like a mini art lesson! I left my art behind and started creating books and doing photography.

I'm not a book illustrator, but I'm so proud that you could think that ! Actually, I began a story here, on my blog, like an illustrated book, with on drawing and the text of the story each time. You can begin the story here : https://steemit.com/story/@djacbaweur/the-great-gardens-of-the-god-of-worlds-1 nd follow the other chapters on the blog ! ^^
(and go back to your artwork, now, it's an order !! :D )

It is good to see the process, the technique. Upvoted!

thank you ! :)

I love to watch people at work when they know what they are doing. IT was very fun to see each stage of your drawing. Thanks for sharing! Do you plan to make a video as well? I'd love to see some of the techniques you employ.

Thanks ! For the video, i really don't know how to process for now, and I don't make a whole drawing in one time, so it seems difficult to film it, but I will think about it !

Nice to see the horseman with his horse being shaped right from the head to a sketch, and the to a real light image, and then to a dark image.

Am wondering how much time it took you to shade.

But it is a perfect one.

mmh... a long time ! :D Thanks a lot ^^

Brilliant work. I always admire great works of art by people such as yourself but to be able to see a work from start to finish is quite a different thing. Gives an insight into how an idea transpires into a finished piece.

I'm so glad you appreciated !

@djacbaweur This type of artistry is rare and so beautiful. The details on the horseman are outstanding and I cannot believe this was done with watercolors! Amazing job! Do you do this professionally or just as a hobby?

You can't give me a better compliment on my work wondering if I'm professional - because, as a matter of fact, I'm not ! It's a hobby for a very long time ago, as far I remember I always tried to draw... :)

I've never been able to draw, just doodle. I'm even bad with the paint by number sets! haha But this was outstanding work!

Hi @djacbaweur,

I love the finished look of this piece. Especially the way the horse and the horseman came out. Great work.
