Swiss Public University To Accept Bitcoins For Student Bills

The University of Lucerne - which happens to be in Switzerland, mind you - announced that it will start accepting Bitcoin for student related bills. Here's a short excerpt form the official announcement:

Effective immediately, customers of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts can pay their bills in the bitcoin cryptocurrency.

The university won't deal directly with Bitcoin, instead, it partnered with Bitcoin Suisse AG to process the payments on its behalf.

I found this paragraph from the announcement particularly interesting:

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is anticipating that few payments will be made in bitcoin – at least to start with. Those most likely to avail themselves of this opportunity will either be already familiar with the concept of financial services and blockchain or interested in pursuing continuing and executive education opportunities in this subject area.

So it's like, ok, we know there aren't going to be too many Bitcoins out of this thing, but still, we think it's cool.

So, if you happen to want to study in Lucerne and have a few Bitcoin aside, this might be your cue.
