Ex. Drawitbetter Contest #7

in drawitbetter •  7 years ago

Hey Guys,
with this post i would like to show a parrot that i drew and also show the process with explanation and description. With this drawing i took part on the ''Drawitbetter Contest'' aswell.
At first i will show the final result and then all the steps to this drawing beneath.

I chose the parot in a flying position, because i wanted to see and draw the whole wings with the feathers.

Here you see the first start, i approach the drawing with the outlines and then continue to some shading later. The lines are more rough at the beginning and later it gets more and more fine when detailing.

In the next step i already start with some shading. It is more an approach than the real shading and i try to find the direction of the hatching lines.

Ara 4.JPG
After this i come up with a second layer of shading, you can already see how dark it gets. First i started shading at the edges of the feathers of the wing.

Ara 5.JPG
In this next step i also started shading the right wing more detailed and also the tail feathers. Also i started with more structure on the head and the small textures on the face of the parrot.

Ara 6.JPG
All the feathers and also the body got more shading and structure. I tried to keep the inside of the feathers more light to create a threedimensional appereance and deepth in the drawing. The bigger contrast of black and white also brings more tension to the drawing.

Ara 8.JPG
Then i go over all the drawing and try to detail more the hatching and shadows of the bird. It is a lot of work in this step to see every feather again by itself and draw more lines on it, but i think you can clearly see the difference to the step before and it is worth it.

At the end i went over the body again and also made the tail feathers much more dark. This picture shows the final drawing. I drew on an A4 sized paper and used a thin fineliner with 0,2mm thickness of the line. I really like to play with the hatching that is going from completely black to more white and white, and i think you can see the effect very good in the opened feathers. I like to keep the eyes white in my drawings to give it some mystery and for me it matches the style with the very thin lines that get very dark in some places trough the density to each other.

Hope you liked my post and the drawings. Thanks a lot for watching.
Inspiring Greetings! Lukas :)
