I began dream journaling years ago. I find that the more you do, the more you have control over your dreams, because you train your subconscious to be more aware. One way to help without writing them down is, every time you touch a real life thing (I use doorknobs) say the following "Am I awake?" then when you are asleep and perform that action, your brain knows that you aren't.
