The Bible tells us in the Book of Genesis the life of Joseph, the dreamer of dreams. Joseph was one of the twelve sons of Jacob, and during his youth he made his living tending his father's flock.
But what is special about this character in the book of Genesis is his ability to remember dreams during his childhood and adolescence, the book does not tell us that he knew the meaning of them, but makes it clear through the narration that it was an ability that in Joseph developed progressively until in his adulthood allowed him to interpret not only his own dreams but also that of others. In the character of Joseph in the Bible, we see a mixture of clairvoyance, divination, and prophecy. In common and simple people, dreams are normally manifestations of the unconscious, but in Joseph, they had a special spiritual significance.
Despite the fact that Jacob, his father, had dreams in which God communicated with him, Joseph's brothers did not have this ability, so Joseph was the object of ridicule and contempt among his brothers. Joseph had received a very special grace from God, a grace that Joseph, due to his fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), knew how to put at the service of the divine Providence, saving not only the Egyptian people from famine but also his own family.
In this way the Bible tells us how Joseph told his family the dreams he had:
"Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. ´Listen,´ he said, ´I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.´
When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, ´What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you? His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind" Genesis 37:9-11.
