Morning
Yesterday morning I got coffee with my friend @hypnopreneur
He likes bitcoin. He likes ska.
Day
During the day I had spent the majority alone.
I drank beer and read #5SecondRule in the park.
That was pretty much my day.
When I got home from the park I sat down on the computer.
Tired of spending the day by myself, I went on Meetup.com
I randomly came across the Consciousness Hacking group.
I saw they had a Lucid Dreaming Workshop at 6pm.
I wrestled with my mind a bit debating on whether or not I wanted to go.
The mind can come up with with a million reasons to not do something.
For me, the reasons I wouldn’t go would be primarily anxiety or fear.
I used the #5SecondRule to get my ass out the door.
5 Second Rule
The #5SecondRule is a tool you can use to redirect your thoughts when anxiety creeps in.
All you have to do is countdown...
5-4-3-2-1-GO!
Whatever it is you are playing around in your mind with on GO, you act.
For me, I used it to attend the Lucid Dreaming Workshop.
I’m so glad I did.
It is a mini milestone, but an important one.
It’s so easy to succumb to fear and allow it to control you.
With the 5 second rule, I am able to redirect the negative thinking patternn and get into action.
Here I go!
Lucid Dreaming Workshop
The workshop was ran by my friend James who I know from the Bitcoin Meetups.
The speaker was Thomas Piesil, author of, A Field Guide to Dreams.
My biggest takeaway from the event was the parallel between our dream state and our waking world.
What can we learn in our dreams that we can take into our waking reality and visa versa?
Why is reality even set up this way? The question perplexed me with no real explanation as to why.
It seems as though our waking world and dream world are of the same reality just expressed in different ways. It seems as if consciousness is the constant and we are experiencing reality through the eyes of a biological being. Many of us us identify with our bodies and thoughts. Those are parts of us, but surely there is much more. It is a game where we are to forget who we really are because reality is a mirror of our ourselves.
What can we take from our dreams and bring them into real life to benefit us?
Thomas touched upon various experiences in his lucid dreams where it was a therapeutic thing for him. For example, he had mentioned a relationship he had. In the dream, he asked his ex to finally forgive him, and she did. Upon waking, it was as if this was done in “real life”. This made me think of what relationships are. If everything is us, including our relationships (dream characters), then it only makes sense to approach them with love. If a relationship is damaged then healing it is really in essence healing yourself too.
That is because consciousness is all there is. Is life a dream?
People say life is a dream. That is true but also not true. I feel it is just another version of the same whole. That whole being consciousness itself. We are experiencing life through different lenses. The dream world is more ethereal and well...dream-like. This waking reality is denser and slower. If this is so, then what can this teach us? Is there fear? No, there is only...love.!
Great article! And great read!
