Bandrék is a traditional Sundanese drink from West Java, Indonesia, which is consumed to increase body warmth. These drinks are usually served in cold weather, such as in the rain or at night. The most important ingredients of bandrék are ginger and brown sugar, but in certain areas usually add their own spices to reinforce the warm effects of bandrék, such as lemongrass, pepper, pandanus, chicken eggs, and so on. Milk can also be added depending on the taste of presentation. Many Indonesians believe that bandrék can cure various minor ailments such as sore throat, cough, and so forth. In Bandung, sellers usually add a dash of coconut shell to add taste from Bandrek. Bandrek commonly consumed with boiled peanuts, boiled sweet potatoes, and also fried foods.
