The Old Dog Wonders: Had I Just Walked Into a Dr. Seuss Book?

in drseuss •  7 years ago  (edited)

Sometimes we get used to our own biosphere, but there are others. I found that out on my recent trip to Tenerife. Trees and plants that I had never even dreamed existed both fascinated me and made me laugh!

Why do I Mention Dr. Seuss?

I grew up reading the Dr. Seuss children's books where strange creatures, humanoids and vegetation were illustrated. Have you read those books? Do you know about them? If you answer yes to those questions than maybe you can relate to what I saw!

Check Out Some of The Tress And Plants From  my Trip!

I find these trees to be weirdly wonderful and very Dr. Seuss like!  My photo with image from hddfhm.com added.

A huge volcano has covered much of the island in lava but trees grow there anyway and the Seussy landscape continues!  My photo with image from lclshome.org added.

Lots of food for the imagination in this place! My photo with image from Clipart Panda added.

Here Are Some More of The Strange Plants!

It's so cool to travel to different biospheres and enjoy the diversity of this planet!

I bet that Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss) must have travelled to some places with weird plants in order to get inspired ....

Yes, it would seem that he lived near a park and a zoo and his imagination ran wild with ideas from these resources.

Buongiorno! Have something for you:-)))))

Yes that is very strange and beautiful. What country is the photo taken in?

Ukraine) This is a sort of pumpkin. Thank you!

Wow! They are indeed beautiful and at the same time strange. I have never seen any of them before. Smile
You did a great job!

Thanks a lot for your visit!

Any time bro.

Wow wonderful photography my friend.and..You say right ...Actually you choice great content..Carry on your activity...

Thanks so much!

Most welcome dear....I will wait your next post...✌✌✌

Our mother nature is awesome. Look at these roots, I loved them. "Trees and loves, while they have roots will have fruits and flowers"

Intersting, thanks!

Excellent post dear friend @ kus-knee I share your affirmation, for those who have seen some of their sixty books that I realized thinking about the children will find many similarities with your images, which are amazing and in some cases very funny. Congratulations on the choice of trips, it must have been a pleasant and extraordinary trip.
I am always passionate about the plants that live in other trees, here in my province of Corrientes there are many genuine forests and you can see hundreds of plants that live in the trees, unfortunately I do not have photographs, which I share what I do. example modem of the web.
thank you very much for sharing this wonderful work
I wish you a great weekend.

Wow, you see such wonderful plants where you live?

My province is a large floating island, we are surrounded by rivers, lagoons and estuaries, the environment is very humid which makes it suitable for these parasitic plants to survive in abundance in the trees.

I love that too, do you know the father of all trees? At least that is how the call it :-) the tree it self is as wide as 40 people in a circle holding hands! About one third of height you have the first break in the tree and you see there a forrest on it self ;-) I do have more pics of this beautiful tree. But this one is showing the other trees and plant living in and of the tree.

Some very unusual vegetation ! I like the one that looks like a snake tail 🐍 . One of my favorite things when traveling is seeing how different the nature is. One can spend hours watching the discovery channel but exploring yourself in real life is a lot more fun.

When I was in Guangzhou recently I saw a weird plant - but I have no clue what it's called .But I think it looks kind of Avatar like hehe

Thanks for sharing your Dr. Seuss trees with us!

My pleasure :)

I love seeing these because it reminds me of holidays in the canaries. I had some great times in Tenerife!

Oh you were there? It was full of people from the British Isles! Great fun!

There are a lot of them. It's a very popular British destination!!! It's a great place, I wrote Lee the other ones as well, Fuerte and Lanzarote

I used to read the book to my daughter, fish 1 fish2 fish in the sea , she loved it, and they stick to you for ever!
Love your post!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Yes they do really stick with you. I went back to Canada to visit my family when my son was a toddler and came back with about 10 Dr. Seuss books. We read them so many times and created such nice memories.

It’s a instant smile on my face , wen I hear dr Seuss because we laughed a lot together with his stories

Beautiful plants and trees. I LOVE Dr.Seuss. Your post is fun and playful. However I was anticipating the 'Dr. Seuss like' rhymes to accompany the photos. Well done though. Thanks.

Yes you're right about the rhymes. I should have done it in collaboration with a great poet that I know......@enjoywithroy!

I loved Dr Seuss, especially
Horton hears a who :-)
And these trees from Africa are
really trippy! Teapot Baobab ☕

Yess it is where I thought it was, Kolumbari. It is a beautiful tree. I lived in Crete for 5 years in my younger naughty years. I loved it, we regularly still go on holiday. It is my second home. Thank you for sharing this link!

Cool!

Thank you.. have a nice evening

Never heard of dr.Seuss, I guess it depends on our age at that time? ;-)

Wow, his books are fabulous and still read to children to this day. Never heard of "The Cat in The Hat" or "The Grinch"?

Now I feel a bit old, my son just say; "I know The Grinch" !!

Haha sorry! Check it out you might like it!

trees and plants really fascinating. successful. I congratulate you my friend @kus-knee

Thanks a lot!

What? It seems you haven't experienced much desert scenery.
All of these trees look normal to me.

Its those 100 foot tall things that stay green all year that are really suspicious.

And those things that put out multi-colored leaves in the "fall". Maybe some day I will see this for myself.

Dr. Seuss is the most awesome of the awesome.
Real children's stories with real world meaning and application.

If you ever get to San Diego City, you can see the mall that Dr. Seuss built (Horton Plaza - he really didn't build it, but it will give you the same feelings you described above)

I like your sense of humour! I'd love to visit San Diego. Who knows, maybe some day.

Most know him, but they do not know it.
The animation " The Lorax (2012)" is based on one of his books!
It is nice to grow up, but to remain a child! Imaginary sharing!😊

Yes I think that you're right. Many don't realise that the know him!

Just watched the Grinch the other day ...twice! Yeah, I can see the relation and where you went with this. Hell, I hadn't heard of Tenerife until seeing and reading your post? Interesting and strange tree's and flora indeed. I like the last pick of that old tree trunk, very kool! I enjoyed it brother! Thanks for the show!

Glad that you had a look!

Yeah I do recognize one plant, its the blue one,.. oh no its an ELEPLANT !

But What a wonderful pictures, all special in a certain way.

It was a great trip and so different from where I live!

Haha, oh wow! Love dr Seuss - love this post!!

I'm so glad that you like those books!

I grew up on them - green eggs and ham used to my favourite. I’m reading them to my daughter now, and enjoying them even more - slowly collecting them all. So wonderfully weird.

My son loves Dr. Seuss! You’re so cool... you made a post about ‘weird’ plants very entertaining. I’m learning so much from you. Happy Friday☺️

I'm so glad that your son likes those books. Lots of fun and great for learning to read!

I have to admit that I enjoy to read as well. It’s a smart way to communicate and bring information to children... and adults!

Green Eggs and Ham, I remember that book 😀
It's quite amazing that's some of those trees do resemble some of the trees Dr Seuss books.

Have you been to the Caribbean @kus-knee?

Some of those trees resemble the Caribbean islands. A matter of fact is Tenerife not an island?

I would love to visit one Tenerife one day 😎

I've been to the caribbean quite a few times but not since I move to Europe 23 years ago!

What a cool post with funny pictures. We don’t exactly have these types of plants in Norway. But a lot of funny threes you may find. Since it is snow time here now I won’t be able to post any plant photos
But a can give a beautiful nature photo:-)

Thanks for the nice photo! I would like to visit Norway one day. It must be very majestic!

AWESOME creative juices there @kus-knee! I am a HUGE fan of Dr. Seuss and what a delight it was to come across these most magnificent and strange trees. Thanks a lot for sharing, namaste :)

Glad that your a fan. He was a creative genius and his work transcends generations!

I can only agree with every single word! Namaste :)

Perfect!! I love the odd trees and plants, but your addition of the Dr. Seuss characters turns your photos into art!!

Thanks so much. I'm a big fan of Dr.Seuss and and it seems to be the appropriate combination!

I miss having little kids to read those books to! Thanks for your support on my page! It will help me keep my contests going, so I'll be passing it along!!😘

Im glad to see Horton made an appearance!

Me too!

You really captured some interesting plants here, I have seen some of them before, but a lot of them I have never seen, nice shots.

Yes, well I live in colder climes!

Your photos are great, and the first ones are also very positive :) Thanks for doing Steem - Better. Good luck to you and Good.

Wow nice photo

Hi!!! Thank you for the photos. Your photos show an extraordinary power of life. On rocks, sand, such amazing plants grow. Thanks to your photos, I kind of went to Tenerife. The most unusual tree in the third photo.

20180121_085114[1].jpg

I used to love the books as a kid, I've seen these kinds of plants so many times but I've never looked at them like that. I have to say with those animations they look super Seussian!! I feel like I can't unsee it now, next time I see vegetation like that I'm just going to see the cat in the hat!!

Dr.Seussn was my jam! Grew up with all of his books.
These plants are pretty crazy, especially the long, skinny ones.

I think the nature is mixed with our life, without the fact that we can not survive, it always comes to our advantage

The first time I see such plants! Thank you for taking a picture and sharing these strange trees with us. But these cacti grew on my window, and the round cactus even blossomed gently-pink flowers)).

i hope you like it@kus-knee

dr seuss many left his work through the book book, full of inspiration and a lot of humor, I hope to read some open dr.seuss.

fantastic. In the nature we can find the best example of the art.
no words to describe it

The plants are strange to me

This tree is unique and rare and does not grow anywhere

Wow wonderful place and nice photo.

Unique trees may elsewhere do not have them

Hahaha I love the lil' cartoons you added! That makes it look exactly like Dr. Suess. You can't look at that and NOT be happy.
