You may think this won't pertain to you, but you'd be wrong. It's hurting everybody.
Ohio sues 5 pharmaceutical companies as the death toll rises to astonishing numbers from drug overdoses. 2017 is looking like it's going to be the worst year yet, as America is approaching slowly but steadily 100,000 drug overdose deaths every year. Opioids are the biggest killer, but many people don't realize the severity of this crisis. This affects everybody, from your grandma to your friends to even your pets. Doctors all across the nation are overprescribing, companies are encouraging this by producing more and paying out more, and even the consumer is at fault.
I'm a big supporter of opioids for certain medicinal purposes and I think MOST pharmaceutical companies do a lot of good, however some things must be addressed and looked at further in depth. We're all to blame here, as society needs to step up the amount of education it gives to everyone about this stuff. Most are clueless, and lack of knowledge contributes greatly to the ever rising death toll.
The war on drugs has failed. It's time to fight back though against this stuff, as it's not just a homeless heroin junkie we're talking about now.. it's everyone. Canada and America are being devastated by Fentanyl, Oxycodone and Hydrocodone.
If you use opioids/opiates, or know anybody that does, you NEED to watch this:
With the United States contributing approximately 80% of the global opioid supply, this is a major problem. Unfortunately it seems there's no easy fix to this, however I believe with the advancement of medicine, technology and society as a whole, eventually we'll get to a point where there's a lot less lethal consequences from being prescribed such pills.

Good move but we have heared this time and time again but at last the big Pharma always win because of money involved in lobbying politicians to submission. Do you think that the present POTUS will change the status quo? good post buddy.

Lobbying is good and pharmaceutical companies in general are good, but there are some "bad hambres" out there. I think it's more society and how we view these drugs that needs to be changed. More education needs to be thrown out there

They should RICO act the opioid/pharmaceutical companies and tag them for Heroin deaths also.

That's not going to happen :P But you know why, right? With that logic, every company would be getting fucked for deaths. It doesn't matter if a corporate entity gets fucked with charges, but a lawsuit does impact them and the people running it.

Hey if they can "claim" to be "people" they can worry about dropping the soap just like the rest of us. But yes I understand that will never happen, but its not like the sudden influx of heroin deaths in the last 15 years is an after effect of mass opioid pushes by some companies.

Yeah there is a lot of issues around opiods. Doctors need to be stricter with their perscribing and need to be less concerned with the comfort side of patients. My wife had a c section with our last child and she only took over the counter advil to manage her pain. I understand that many people can't do that and it was something I've never seen before despite being around that type of surgery a lot but the doctors were not supportive of her non-opoid choice.
She was hassled to take oxycodone on several occasions both before the surgery and after. She was even lied to as the doctors assured her it would not affect the child but we have witnessed our first child affected by the drug through breast feeding. The seriousness of these drugs doesn't even seem to be fully realized by medical practitioners and that comes back to the fact that nobody is openly conversing about this topic.
