This past Friday, former Marina mayoral candidate Kevin Saunders, filed a ballot measure to the California Attorney Generalβs office to decriminalize psilocybin currently a schedule 1 drug and the primary psychoactive compound in magic mushrooms. Β
"This initiative exempts adults, 21 and over, from criminal penalties and decriminalizes adult use of psilocybin," "exempts adults, 21 and over, from California health and safety codes which otherwise prohibit possession, sale, transport and cultivation of psilocybin."Β
Quite an endeavor, to make the ballot their needs to be 365,880 valid voter signatures in 180 days to get this measure on the 2018 ballot, a feat that will require $2-$3million. Kevin Saunders, the man who filed the ballot measures believe in the power of magic mushrooms after it helped him quit a heroin addiction 15 years ago.Β
