Welcome to Steemit!
First of all, We'd like to welcome those of you who decided to follow us over to Steemit. The past and current Facebook fiasco seems like a never ending battle! But, these hating, keyboard warriors only THINK they can shut us down.
I had made a post similar to this on one of the DSJ Facebook pages offering to help with questions about Steemit and help setting up accounts, if you so desired. Unfortunately, that page got taken down, like so many others, and the post with it, so I thought I would rewrite this post here, and add a little for those of you were kind, and patient enough to set up an account to show your support for DSJ. @kpdwife @jearley @nojust1ce @reckless421 @lmarks042911 just to name a few that I've recognized, thank you again.
On to business.
What in the world is Steemit?
I'm going to go ahead and answer a couple of the big questions I remember hearing the most from the Facebook post.
Steemit is really easy to use. There is a lot of technical information out there about Steemit that will give you mental constipation, and the impression that you need an IT degree to use it. You'll hear lots of words like "blockchain", "whitepaper", "witnesses", etc. That's all really interesting stuff if you're into tech. but NOT necessary to simply enjoy Steemit. If you are tech savvy enough to use Facebook, you wont have a bit of trouble learning your way around Steemit, and if you do, I'm here to help. It's the same basic concept as any other social media platform. Like, follow, share, post, comment, etc. There is even an app, but I will get to that later.
Q: Does it cost anything to get a Steemit account?
No. It doesn't cost you ANYTHING. There is a waiting period of up to two weeks. In that time, they verify that you are actually YOU. (You CAN get an account immediately through a third party service, but, at the time of this post, it costs 0.0025 Bitcoin or 0.1 Litecoin, they DO NOT accept any government issued currency. If you're new to Steemit I doubt you have any Bitcoin or Litcoin laying around, and likely have no idea what I'm talking about, and that's OK. You don't need to. My advice is wait the two weeks and get your account for free.)
Q: Does it cost anything to USE Steemit once I have an account?
No. It doesn't cost you anything to use Steemit. The rewards you earn, or the content you upvote (like), doesn't come out of your pocket. If you would like, you can exchange U.S. dollars for Steem, (the crypto currency that Steemit is built around) but it's not necessary to do so.
If you have any other questions, please leave them in the comments on this post, and I will be happy to get back to you as soon as I can.
I have an account. Now what?
First, follow @dsj so you don't miss any busts! (Shameless plug. Haha)
Browse through the trending feed and find some other blogs you like! some of my personal favorites are @dollarvigilante @doitvoluntary @philipkennedy @benswan. There are also some WONDERFUL photographers and writers here. @seetheworld.sgp has some awesome photos!
You can also write your blog. Find something your knowledgeable in or passionate about. Post your own photos and videos.
The rest of the Steemit ecosystem.
Partiko
I'll start off with the "Steemit app" I mentioned earlier. It's called Partiko (@partiko). You can get it free in the app store on your mobile device for android and apple. You'll log in through a service called SteemConnect. It will ask for your "active / owner key". That's that big long string of characters they gave you as a password when you finished your sign up. It's a good app and Partiko is working on more improvements to the app as we speak. You can find a short review I did awhile back here: (https://steemit.com/partiko/@appalachain/partiko-first-impressiontmvvdfpg)
Dtube
I'm sure by now most of you are familiar with Dtube. If you would like to sign in to Dtube to watch other videos, or post your own / go live, yourself, you'll use your "private posting key". It can be found by going to wallet > permissions > then click "show private key" across form "posting". Copy and paste that into the password bar underneath where you put your username. Just FYI, there is no need to go back to Steemit to upvote (like) or comment on posts that you've already interacted with. What you do on Dtube carries over to Steemit and vice versa. (https://d.tube/) (@dtube)
Et cetera....
There are lots of other things you can do in the Steemit sphere. I don't have experience with all of these, but if you're having trouble using one you're interested in, contact me, and we can figure it out together.
Busy.org:
Busy.org is basically Steemit.com with an updated look. It's simply has a cleaner, more user friendly user interface. (https://busy.org/) (@busy.org)
Dsound:
Dsound is all about audio! There are some really good musicians on there! @danieldyemusic is one of my personal favorites. (https://dsound.audio/) (@dsound)
Dbooks:
Dbooks is just what it sounds like. The website is still kind of rough, but I think it's an awesome idea, especially for folks who want to self publish! (https://www.dbooks.org/) (@dbooks.org)
There are more, but these are some of the most successful. I'll leave the rest for you to explore and find, if you so choose.
I hope this was helpful. Again, if you have any questions, need any help, I'm more than happy. Simply leave a comment on this post. You can also find me on here @appalachain. I hope all of you enjoy, and get the most out of Steemit.

You're welcome @kpdwife. I've been here since a month after Steemit launched. It's grown so fast, I cant even keep up with it all! Tell your friends! Bring them over! I hardly get on Facebook anymore.
