Reached 50 Reputation! Celebrating with Fireworks Sounds!

in dsound •  6 years ago

Well, this celebratory post is actually a bit late... I had meant to post about this last week, but the crazy HF20 issues didn't let me. I'm glad the dust seems to have settled...

On Saturday 2018/09/22, I reached 50 reputation!

When I joined Steemit in February, I remember how hard it was to climb one reputation rank, and had a lot of respect for the veteran users with a reputation of 50 and above. I learned that each rank was harder to reach than the previous one, and kept wondering whether I would ever reach the reputation rank of 50.

I had just joined, and wasn't sure if Steemit was something for me, since I'm not much into social networking sites. My thought was that I might get tired of Steemit and quit, or may not have inspiration to write posts frequently. But almost 8 months later, here I am! I can't post too frequently, with usually two posts a week (one in Portuguese and the other one the English translation), but I'm still here and don't feel like stopping anytime soon. The monetary rewards so far are nothing to write home about (just as I had expected, though. I never had any illusions that I'd get rich overnight or anything), but there's something about the STEEM community that pulled me in in the beginning, and is still what keeps me here.

Time flies, and when I least expected, boom! Reputation 50! By now I know that the current reputation system has its problems, but reaching 50 still feels like a huge achievement to me. So...

Fireworks!

The milestone made me think of fireworks. Then, I remembered that I had recorded fireworks sounds from my window in New Year's eve of 2015, but still hadn't uploaded the recording anywhere. So, I decided to upload it to DSound (kind of random, I know :P . It's funny how one thought leads to another sometimes!)

The sound was recorded from my apartment's living room's window, in the night of December 31st, 2014, with a Zoom H4n portable recorder, then edited in Audacity to cut out undesired parts and adjust the volume. As with most of my other sounds, I release this sound into the public domain, which means it can freely be used for anything.

My other sounds are on Freesound.org. Here's a link if anyone is interested:

I had pretty much the same feelings as you starting out.

I don't use other media bar a small bit of Facebook but for some reason I just love it here. If I can make a profit great but if I can't it's still a brilliant site.

Just don't forget the cake. Fireworks and cake.

I'm glad I'm not alone in those thoughts.

I don't even have Facebook. I'm on Twitter but barely use it. I only use it to post some small status updates. Never felt any connection to the platform, unlike on STEEM. It's a wonder I even decided to join Steemit. I'm glad I did, though. I'm having a good time here.

Cake? That should be for the one year anniversary :P . Almost 4 more months to go. I hope I'll still be steeming strong by then!

It's never a bad time for cake. You can get another one for the 1 year anniversary. I'm pretty much the exact same as you with media. This is where I feel most comfortable so it's the one I use. For as long as there is something to be doing.

Every milestone, no matter how small, should be celebrated 😁 Progression!

Congratulations on your achievement!🎉
I still don't know why reputation matters. It doesn't change the value of your upvotes, right?
But I'm waiting for my "50" as well😊

Basically, more upvotes (especially bigger upvotes) = more reputation, and if many people upvote, it should mean the person posts good content. In theory, reputation should matter for others to know if the person isn't a spammer/plagiarizer (spammers usually don't get significant votes, and also end up flagged when found out, which decreases their reputation). This is "in theory," though, because like I mentioned in the post, the reputation system has its problems, and the main one being that there are spammers who game the system and buy votes to make their reputation go up. I don't think they usually get to 50, though.

Speaking of 50, you're almost there too!

PS: I've enjoyed your posts. Were you ever featured in the Pay It Forward contest? If not, I'd like to feature you.

Wow. Thanks for such a detailed answer:)

Yes, I'm almost there. Just behind you😉

I've never heard of this contest. I will search for it.

It's a contest where we have to make a post featuring two interesting steemians with reputation 55 or below. Here's the link to this week's contest:

I was looking for a second steemian to feature this week and found you :D .

Thank you for considering me interesting 😊
