Hello guys!

I'm @crissimoes and this is my twenty third post here on @dsound! Ready for another class?

Today I will teach you how to say the Ordinal Numbers in portuguese (from first to tenth number).

Ordinal numbers are used to express the position or order in a sequence. For exemple: the floors in a building, to place positions in a competition, etc.

In Portuguese the ordinal numbers have feminine and masculine forms and they are marked like this: 1º, 2º, 3º, etc.
Let’s get started!

1º (1st)

  • Masculine Form – Primeiro
  • Feminine Form – Primeira

2º (2nd)

  • Masculine Form – Segundo
  • Feminine Form – Segunda

3º (3rd)

  • Masculine Form – Terceiro
  • Feminine Form – Terceira

4º (4th)

  • Masculine Form – Quarto
  • Feminine Form – Quarta

5º (5th)

  • Masculine Form – Quinto
  • Feminine Form – Quinta

6º (6th)

  • Masculine Form – Sexto
  • Feminine Form – Sexta

7º (7th)

  • Masculine Form – Sétimo
  • Feminine Form – Sétima

8º (8th)

  • Masculine Form – Oitavo
  • Feminine Form – Oitava

9º (9th)

  • Masculine Form – Nono
  • Feminine Form – Nona

10º (10th)

  • Masculine Form – Décimo
  • Feminine Form – Décima

Let’s now check some sentences where ordinal numbers in portuguese are usually used:

  • Eu vivo no 2º (segundo) andar. - I live in the 2nd (second) floor.
  • A Filipa acabou a corrida em quinto lugar. - Filipa came in fifth place in the race.
  • Foi a terceira vez que nevou este ano. - It was the third time it snowed this year.

We have come to the end of another Portuguese class.

If you have any question please let me know in the comments bellow.

I hope you have enjoyed my twenty third post here on @dsound and I’m looking foward to see you next time!

Bye!!
