"Empty Without Her"-A Song about Loss

in dsound •  7 years ago

Years ago a friend of mine went through a divorce and really suffered. In some ways, it seemed similar to how someone processes death, and I was moved by the depth of his grief. It was a dark time for all involved. This song, "Empty Without Her" came from that place. It's such a sad tune that I don't play it live very often, but when I do, love the violin and cello my niece and nephew add to my guitar, which can be heard in this recording.

Thank you for your support everyone, and to @DSound for this platform.

Lyrics:

The garden’s full of weeds and the porch is full of leaves
And the grass is now a field
Oh the coffee it grows cold and lights are never on
And music is an echo from the past

Oh I guess I have a home
But if you come you’ll be alone
You're gonna find it's empty without her

And in an upstairs’ room the TV’s never off
It’s voice pierces the gloom
In the glow of its light there’s a shadow of a man
A man that’s now a memory

Oh I guess I have a home
But if you come you’ll be alone
You're gonna find it's empty without her

He’s a memory of the past of a time so long ago
Of a time that never really was
And if you wonder why she left then you will never know
Because some things are better left unsaid

Oh I guess I have a home
But if you come you’ll be alone
You're gonna find it's empty without her

Such an emotional piece. And the writer aptly captured the void that the wife’s absence created in her husband.
Thumbs up! 👍

Thanks so much!

O @danieldyemusic... Your passion for music shines through your songs.

I have two comments on this.

...but when I do, I love the violin and cello my niece and nephew add to my guitar...

This is a case of the apple not falling far away from the tree. It seems the love for music runs in the family (you mentioned your niece and nephew playing with you). Lemme know if I'm wrong.

I'm particularly interested in the fact that your music stems from real life situations. The stories behind them adds flavor to the songs and helps us relate more to it.

Keep being real!

Yes pretty much everyone in my family plays music, and thanks for the feedback. Some songs are easier to explain than others, that's for sure!

Grim and appealing in equal measures. This is a good one.

Thank you my good man.

Terima kasih.

An amazing song, dude! I love the cello and violin as well. It just adds that little bit of mystery and darkness to it.

very emotional!! loved it, felt it very deep for personal reasons also...
Great job!!

whether it's a haunted house

No, just an empty house.

Good thing you are also lyrically inclined. Hahaha...big ups man

poetic beauty put to excellent music and sympathetic vocal. lovely.

Many years ago I wrote a song about an abandoned house (Haunted) and it also talks about desolation and abandonment as a metaphor, totally different mood, but the first verse of your song struck the right strings on me. I was drawn by the picture, I feel compelled to look to the darkness in the windows when I see empty houses, but I'm glad I found the music.
