The French Connection Mixtape [Classic French Rap Mix by DJ Lethal Skillz]

in dsound •  6 years ago  (edited)

Being born in Lebanon where people often speak very well both French (That’s because of the French colonial influence) and English in addition to the Arabic and Lebanese dialect but the younger generation tends to gravitate more towards English.

I grew up listening to a mixture of French rap (France has the second-biggest hip-hop market in the world) and American Hip hop but mid 90's we started our own Arabic Hip-hop movement by encouraging the local artists in Lebanon and the region to start writing and rapping in their local Arabic language on the side of French and English, we also encouraged the producers to start sampling from Arabic music as they sample from old Jazz, Funk records and such, which lead to now having a massive Arabic hip-hop movement spreading across the region from Levant area like Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan all the way to Egypt, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and across.

The French Connection Mixtape is dedicated to all lovers of the Classics from French Conscious Rap music and the new who have never maybe listened to French Rap music. These selected tracks in the mix I was hooked on growing up as a young Hip-hop head.

The Mixtape features the likes of La Rumeur, Oxmo puccino, I AM & Fonky Family, Fonky family, NTM and many more...
