And I Bid You Goodnight

in dsound •  7 years ago

Many people know this song best sung by the Grateful Dead. They learned it off of a recording by John Lomax in the Caribbean. Those singers learned it out of a hymnal brought there by missionaries from the United States. The hymnal was put together by a guy named Ira Sankey, and had been composed as an elegy for the death of someone well-known in England, and then was used many years later in Texas for a similar purpose. A long history, crossing racial, cultural, and geographical expanses.

And I bid you goodnight.

This is very nice, I like it at 1:26 as the percussion kicks in. Soft vocalstyle sits well too. Night Doc! zzzzzz
