I have remixed plenty of songs but I can’t say I’ve ever remixes a song before it was finished being tracked. Nevertheless, the worlds first preemptive remix now exists, this time drawing upon the raw material of the new WWIII+IV record I’m producing in the studio this week. FIrst and foremost, let me say that this process of building sounds all day for a client and then brainstorming off of the time invested in sound design for my own material has been some of the most satisfying writing of my life ... and the motivation to stay consisten producing music for DSound and the Steemit community has one hundred percent landed my brain in this sort of hyper-productive, time maximimalist mindset. I still had the ambient piano Morphagene modular synth patch setup from the ambient piece I did a week ago, and when brainstorming for a minimalist acoustic + electronic song called “Cheap Date” we fed the patch some relevant piano noodling and built a dreamlike sequence by moving the Morphagene playhead (sequenced by the Rene) in quarter note time to various places within the loop. It was sublime and I knew I had to do more with the patch before it slipped away, lost in the timestream to today’s experiments.
When I woke up this morning there was a strange combination of birds and rain outside and I knew a granulated version of this would be the perfect compliment to the now reversed piano sequence from last night. I threw the Coles 4038 in the front door then swept the varispeed control on the ambient birds chirps, effectively tuning a melody out of the chirping (big shout out to the bird for staying on the same note for upwards of two minutes, great discipline, would hire again for session work.)
I then threw some guitar (Les Paul --> Death by Audio Exit Index ... a fabulous and velocity receptive tremolo) into my Roland Space Echo --> Blackstar Artisan 30. So long as I focus on the timbres and not guitar heroics, I am now a more or less functionally minimalist guitar player. Only took two decades.
Enjoy. This piece is about as close to standing in the rain outside my apartment while an ambient record is being made inside as you’d likely want to get. Bonus: no umbrella required.

I enjoyed reading this and imagining what it was going to sound like before I actually listened. You are very descriptive and I appreciate especially you naming the gear used! The bird chirps with the varispeed was a stroke of genius

It was so calm and peaceful with the background voices of birds it felt like I was in a jungle with a lot of birds singing for me and the nature's melody. Damn this was cool.

Hi @drumoperator! I have just listened to Cheap Date Remix on @DSound and i loved it. Very chilled and calming. I was sitting by my balcony doors which are getting mercilessly drenched from the outside rain, with a cup of warm tea in my hand. It was poor perfection! I ll play this everytime it pours here- which is a lot btw! Ps I really liked your comment on my introductory post @clodaghdowning. Apologies that I didn't reply til now! I only just saw it.
