When the banner of the name Marigüitense is raised, it will be necessary to talk about Atilio Rondón. This fecund countryman is a synonym of town. A poet who makes everyday with the simplest verses. His unique way of expressing what the people feel is finding easy support in his poetry, for that reason, the fisherman and the peasant have made him a valid interlocutor to narrate his experiences. With Atilio Rondón the history of Marigüitar is being written, with him the little country is represented. On behalf of the Culture Commission of the Council and the Mayor's Office of the Municipality of Bolívar, we have the joy of being able to count on this work, which will serve to witness our identity as a people.
The previous paragraph is the prologue that, in 1999, Professor Modesto Gómez was the President of the Culture Committee of the Municipal Council of the Bolívar Municipality of Sucre State, on the occasion of the austere recording of the album entitled MY PUEBLITO by Atilio Rondón. Therefore, it is a pleasure for me to present the song of today El Labriego (The laborer). This is the Track No. 12 in the original version of an Oriental Merengue recorded by the author in his own voice under the direction and with a simple musical arrangement of who writes these lines.
On that occasion I came to express that, in the musical work of the poet Atilio Rondón reflects the feeling that this noble artist has for his people and their customs. What you are going to hear honors the simplicity and humility in the sung verse of El Labriego. It is enriched and enriched thus, the popular songbook of our State Sucre with the musical work of this genuine popular culture.

The laborer
I'm happy because
I already have where to plant
And so to be able to harvest
My ear of corn
Today it has rained at last
After so much drought
And that's why my joy
Now I'm happy again (bis)
There on that mountain
Of beautiful polychrome
When it rains a downpour
It sounds like melody
My spirit of the laborer
You already know about these charms
And it's fragile like a shoot
And humble as my fields
It is my greatest hope
See my little boys grow
For when they are big
Follow this tradition
And that generation
Work and sow in this land
To win the war
To hunger and ambition (bis)
There on that mountain
Of beautiful polychrome
When it rains a downpour
It sounds like melody
My spirit of the laborer
You already know about these charms
And it's fragile like a shoot
And humble as my fields
