Jon Caturia - Watching [Original Track]

Really changing gears here for a minute!

Jon Caturia is a really good friend of mine since high school - he's an acoustic singer/songwriter from my hometown. We were actually in a band together for years, and after the band went separate ways, I continued to work with him as his producer. He took a lot of influence from folk music in recent years, and I offered to help him produce an EP under his name. We released a 5-song EP entitled 'Running Joke' in April of last year.

Honestly, it was a great experience for me because it challenged my diversity and flexibility. Work in electronic genres for too long and you start to forget how to properly produce more organic instruments - it's a whole different monster. Especially when sound samples that we use for electronic music are often already EQ'd and compressed to perfection. This made me dig a little deeper.

The drums and keys are I essentially drew in MIDI from Kontakt 5, and for this track specifically, I performed all the instruments (guitar/bass, etc.) with the exception of Jon's voice. It definitely gives off a live performance kind of feel, but surprisingly it was far from it. I got to draw in a ripped little jazzy keyboard solo in the middle of the song. Glad those years as a jazz major finally paid off 😂. Kind of amazing what we can do nowadays with modern synths and emulators.

As always, thanks for listening - hope you guys dig it!

great job Bro! light song, I like the filter jobs and drums! and keys you played, that jazz part is really perfect, you know you're on the right way! produce different styles, go beyond the rules! great work!

Thanks man, really appreciate that! Just for the record, I wish I could play keys like that. lolll I totally wrote/drew that all in MIDI. I'm glad it's authentic sounding enough to fool people though! 😂

if you ask me, I say that its normal, the key is the notes that you imagine and adding them to your music, with a mouse click or with midi keyboard, its not the matter :)) , the important thing is how good the final work will be :) , as I heard from Hans Zimmer two words : break the rules, use your imagination ... and I have to say I love Kontakt, but I wish I could have all those plugins, but they are huge, I'm playing much with wav and mp3 sounds, shaping them changing them, and it's cool, as you did it too. reverse the sounds, stretch them, distort them or filtering them, playing with automation lines :))) these are the things making a music great, you did a great job bro!

I also brother like this type music

Well, first thing first: thanks for uploading and posting. I like it, when I get some information about the process of producing a piece of music. Then: No need to say, that the piece is - of course - a piece of professional work. But it´s in the voice! The voice, yes, it´s simply a great. Have a good time! Rolf from the Czech republic

Thanks very much! Yeah he definitely does a good job wit the vibes he puts out, glad you dig it!
