I first met Alex in 2012 at a festival in the south-west of England, he approached me after my set and very kindly gifted me with a novel FM synthesizer box which he himself had built (and which I later gifted to Opiuo). He made an instant impression on me, and then some months later became the first person to sign up for my “Psychedelic Jedi” online tuition course.
Already a highly talented multi-instrumentalist musician & singer, recording artist, collector AND builder of synthesizers, DJ, event promoter, sound system owner (we had Funktion 1’s on in the living room one night) and a celebrated game-boy chip-tune multi-album artist - I feared I may have nothing to teach him he didn’t already know!
Our Skype sessions were very synergistic however, and we clearly had a lot to teach each other. We hung out and played some shows during the summer of 2014, Alex spent some time releasing music under the artist alias “Motna”, and then in October 2014 we got together at my studio in Norfolk to make a track; a track that later became known as “Origins”.
Although it’s been nearly 4 years since then, the composition came together very quickly, in just two sessions. The process was so enjoyable that we decided to play the long game and make a 10 track album.
We linked up every few months and wrote 4 more tracks before I left the UK in Sept 2015. Then in Nov 2015 we met in Honduras and wrote another 5 tracks over a period of 3 weeks before going our separate ways.
The album has been going through a slow distillation process in Hawaii for the last few years, curing & purifying, agitating and sublimating, exalting the subtleties while removing all things unnecessary and superficial.
Great care, patience and ingenuity have been taken to ensure the sweetest and most nuanced possible expression of the music. This is sonic soul medicine at it's finest!
In short, we could not be more proud of this album! There will be much more to say about it, but for now, from Alex and myself, we hope you enjoy this 11-minute album teaser.
