As If We Never Were

Genre: Dark Ambient

This dark ambient piece is more sedate and less apocalyptic than the title implies... at least for the first half!

This song is pretty much all reverb. The locrian mode chord progression (played by three synths: violin, chorus, and piano) is mostly routed to the reverb bus instead of the master, giving it that distant, washed-out sound. I did duplicate the chorus synth and route the dupe to the master just so I could do some "interesting things" to it.

The attention-grabbing drumbeat is just a regular 808 kick routed 100% through the reverb bus... no master at all. The result was rather interesting; I think I'll be using it again.

As I do in all of my dark ambient (and most of my non D.A) songs, I created a "blanket of noise" using a separate extra-long reverb (a pair of them) driven by various bits of the composition and some extra samples that are totally inaudible. This is given a very slow fade-in, slowly building to a crescendo alongside "that weird sound" that you will probably hate. This bit of the track is intentionally loud and chaotic to serve as a contrast to the more sedate first half. It isn't meant to portray anything specific, just... "something that happened to us"... after which there is only a fade to cold oblivion.

Have A Nice Day!

(...damn right there's gonna be a remix!)
