Hilarious story about an Aussie in San Fran, funky didge beatbox, lapsteel slide, 1-man band - Lucky Man Story - naTHAN Kaye - (entry for Steemit Open Mic week 74). ORIGINAL SONG
AN UNCONVENTIONAL AUSSIE IN THE USA - TRUE STORY:
I wrote this after a mega 2 month tour of UK and Ireland where I ended up in the USA on a crazy road trip to Burning Man Festival via Las Vegas and the Nevada Desert!
THE BACK STORY PRE-AMBLE:
I've always been a storyteller.
That's why I became a film & TV actor and also why I became a musician.
Music is a form of storytelling, even when there are no lyrics.
But the depth of storytelling got elevated another notch when I was in Ireland.
You see, before I got to the States, I had finished playing at a festival in the South East of Ireland and after the fest had ended and everyone left, there was about 40 of us huddled around a huge fire sharing songs and stories.
The Irish have this incredible tradition of story songs.
That is, songs that start out more like an incredible actor's monologue, but then they literally break into chorus (all together) at key moments, returning back to the story, then back to the chorus... (seriously an incredible cultural tradition that I could rave on for hours about)
This was revelationary to me!
I then heard a few trad bluesman play in the USA who also had a similar style of storytelling songs. (mind blown!)
So as I was experiencing my journeys through the USA, I wrote this song of this hilarious experience I had and I employed this incredible story-song type format that is traditional in Irish culture and African-American blues culture.
Ok, so Even though it's a bit different to the normal song entry, I really do hope you enjoy and perhaps get transported into viscerally experiencing what transpires in the story!!!
AND IT IS ALL TRUE!
As with my previous performances, nothing is looped or pre-recorded in this one-man band performance. I am simultaneously playing the
"Violap" Lapsteel Slide guitar (co-designed by Ben Harper),
Slide-Didge (modern adaptation of the traditional Aboriginal wind instrument known most commonly as didgeridoo),
vocals and electronic foot drums (homemade from wet-suit, plywood, guitar cables, and contact mics into a drum module).
So dear friend reading this, I do hope you enjoy this performance!

Telling stories is the best way (by far) of communicating with each other! I tell stories all the time because its how I best relate to people and I love hearing stories of experiences that people have had on their journey through life. I gotta admit that this song had me laughing because of how fun and free it was (and a little bit crazy haha). I loved the beat too, such a great vibe to your music. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks so much @socent! Fun and a little bit nuts, just about sums it up alright! hahaha.. Did you see the video version of it yet?
Yes, I totally agree with you about storytelling. In fact, it harkens back to the dawn of our species' ability to communicate. Storytelling is interwoven into our DNA, that's why we respond so well to it and have created multitudes of ways to do storytelling.

I haven't watched the video yet, I will have to go back and do that! And I agree with you that storytelling is built into our DNA but not everyone is good at it so kudos to you for being able to entertain and tell a good story :)

Yeah Dsound was not playing and so followed the link to musicoin and wow I like how it looks.
I have always been a sucker for vinyls and although it is just an aesthetic it is wonderful to look at while boobing to your beat.
It kinda has a bluesy vibe and throw in a little gospelly sound with the high points haha

Thanks so much @maverickinvictus!
Musicoin does have a nice GUI with the spinning vinyl. I'd love to get this whole album pressed onto vinyl one day! I love vinyl too!
I'm very happy that you enjoyed the tune, mate...

This post wasn’t supposed to be the same video though @foxyspirit. It was just for the original audio song version from the Lucky Man album that includes the studio audiences' reactions.
You have to click the first picture to hear it. I only added the video in near the end of the blog for those that hadn’t yet seen it.
I thought that those people who had already seen it, might be interested in hearing my original version of it. And vice-versa.
I hope nobody else gets confused with that. Maybe I need to write it out more clearly and in a bigger font size.
Anyway, I’m very happy that you enjoyed the video version again.

Oh yes! I will definitely have a look at it. I have to say I am guilty as charged for not clicking on the first picture :( I feel bad. I did a quick read of it while trying to get the fam jam ready to leave. My bad.
I will take time to better look at your post. It is much deserved that I do.

After listening to the first one you posted, the first picture, I had to listen to the one on youtube after. I have to say, what a difference it is when watching you and just listening to you.
I like how you have added a few variations to the first time you had done it.
I can say that the first one does have more of a blues sound to it in your voice. But again I am not seeing you like in the video. Going by sound here.
I'm having a hard time figuring out which version I like more as there are traits in both that I like.
It must have been so powerful to have heard the Irish tell their stories like that. When everyone joins in the chorus, I just imagine the feeling... Goosebumps! I'd love to go to Ireland one day. A beautiful place I can only see in pictures. Have you been back to Ireland after that?
