Group Of Tawny Owls Calling At Night

in dsound •  7 years ago  (edited)

My friend has a Tawny Owl pictured and the Owl recently moved up here and has attracted quite a few friends more than likely being territorial than friendly. However it is spring which is also breeding season.

I went down there tonight and I saw at least one Tawny Owl land on her cage, and we heard we think up to 4 others some screeching too. They sounded like they were on a nearby houses roof.

Felt truly magical to be so close to nature in a town. Before my friend move her Owl up we had no idea there would be so many others in a built up area albeit in the countryside.

I will certainly be going back when with my camera when I learn what settings to use it on!

I could sit outside all night listening to them talk to each other.

Its looking a bit shifty 😂.

I note you say when you learn the setting son your camera but you got a great shot none the less,

Thank You. This one was a quick picture on my phone.

Its night time photo with a very fast shot I need. I usually do dark sky photos so the opposite I think of what I want now.

Phones are pretty good these days but I still use my camera fir most of my shots

What a beautiful owl! they are truly majestic creatures! and this one looks like he is winking at you!

She does look like she is winking!

That is very cool!! I helped care for raptors at the San Francisco zoo for a few years and know the struggle of territorial wild wildlife coming to bug the captive ones. I love hearing all the unique sounds of different birds - each owl species has a completely unique call, so you can usually tell what kind of owl it is based on the pattern of the hoot. This is super cool!

Oh awesome, they all sound so different! Will they continue to visit or will it become less over time?

That I can't really say - I do remember back in my raptor days that we'd see lots of young red tailed hawks hanging around the mews, but I can't say if there were returning hawks. They can be sort of territorial so I'm sure they were frustrated that they couldn't do anything about these bigger birds hanging around their tree, lol!

LOL! I love owls. You're so lucky to have some coming to live near you! Thanks for sharing.
