Ep 12 - Friday Reflection On Pub Culture

in dsound •  6 years ago  (edited)

Today I am reflecting on society and it's interactions.

Have we lost communication and community?

Are we to reliant on the algorithm to tell use what to do?

In my opinion we are and this need to change and sharpish. Don't feel bad this have been the plan since Edward Bernays, Freuds Nephew (not son as I said in the jibcast) started the mass manipulation of the human mind.

Discussed Today:

Attitudes in society
Free Speech
Facebook and it's control
Johnny Bravo's everywhere
Edward Bernays
Matrix
Change
My attitude
What people think

It's a shame about the coke, but there have always been lots of insecure young people about looking for whatever expensive props they can find to give them a bit of bravado. I agree about the dangers of Facebook and Instagram, but we're using technology to get our messages across too. These things are tools and it's up to all of us to use them sensibly or obsessively.
I think the real problem is too much institutionalism. People are herded into compounds where they only interact with other people of their own age, on a daily basis, with everything done for them, for almost two decades! No wonder they find social interaction difficult when they get out. It's like the Shawshank Redemption on steroids.
I use Meetup to meet like-minded people to go hillwalking and climbing with, and we use Facebook and Messenger to keep in touch. I post loads of selfies, but I look terrible in at least half of them, haha...

A good reflection there and I agree. I do think however that social media controls the masses. For generations that grew up in the era when it was not dominating our culture there is not such a reliance culture! The younger generations depend on it for information, in my opinion this reduces the ability of independent thought and individuality. Nowt wrong with a good old fashioned text or email haha

Yes meet up is good although living in a more rural area and not driving it's hard to get to a lot of meetups 💯🐒

You might be right. We used to depend on the 9 o'clock news and newspapers and magazines for our info. I think the internet has broadened info sources, but not everyone takes that opportunity to broaden their mind.

You've hit it there good old Trev Mcdonnald haha. The majority now take what they are told as gospel without looking for themselves. But also social media reduces conversation and face to face social interaction in turn increasing social anxiety and insecurities. The internet has and does broadened our resources but not all use it to it's full potential 💯🐒

Yeah national treasure Trev :D Hmm... I think most people always took what they were told as gospel. But social media certainly does reduce face to face social interaction. I got lots of that at the climbing centre this evening, from people aged 21 to 60.
I'm in the middle of a big Facebook discussion right now, about climate change, population rates, overconsumption... OK, I suppose most people use it to share cat pics :D

Your right I guess as I have withdrawn more from the mainstream media I see it in a different light. By reading thinks from a number of perspective I feel I see the bigger picture; by no means the whole picture through.

I don't miss Facebook though and personally would rather go to a cafe or pub and had a solid discussion! I guess that's my point is more and more people talk via text not voice. Yes you talk to a wider range possibly but the balance is important. This is where I feel social media begins to control as it filters who and what you see whilst you are still under the impression your browsing a free space when in reality it is very controlled and regimented. Where as something like Steem is decentralised. It's all about the balance and many don't possess this ability, which is very worrying with the introduction of #5G and social crediting!

Shame there are not meetup's close enough to me to do this but I still get a decent interaction in 💯🐒

Yes 5G and social crediting are very scary - though I suppose Steemit is a type of social credit system.

It sure is! Steemit does not limit where you can go or what you can by though? 💯🐒

I feel you man... the whole going out to clubs and bars is a weird one for me too, don’t really like it, yet if I just stay home it feels like I’m missing out and being antisocial. Sometimes it’s a lot of fun, but blowing money and poisoning yourself with alcohol is just super dumb if you sit back and think about it, especially the next morning.

Oh for sure only a few avoid the head in the morning. Also it doesn't feel social any more, more display of yourself a judgement. There is just not a willingness to engage or meet new people or concepts. But I continue to try 💯🐒

you're bang on here. Put them behind a screen and they're invincible, bring them out in the open and they're like a fish out of water

For sure it kinda sad to see really, the power of media 💯🐒
