Vlogging In Public | Some Advice For Shy DTubers

in dtube •  6 years ago  (edited)

People,

I had a blast with a fellow Steemian @teodora being a little silly free-spirited on the streets of London shooting a video together.

In this video, I talk about vlogging in public and the fears and apprehensions that prevent people from doing it, even when they really want to. I also propose a likely solution.

Shoutout to @joythewanderer - possibly the most confident public vlogger on DTube :)

Enjoy.

Heyy, nice to see you two have fun and “grow” together! Having a vlogging partner definitely makes you feel less crazy! I have my selfie stick with me here in Thailand, because I thought, hey I can just walk around and record videos on the street, after all, nobody knows me there! ...and I’ve used it exactly zero times til now (three months in... 🙈).

Hahahaha.. You need to get some videos out there! Thailand seems to me to be more tolerant of people photographing and making videos. I watch a lot of photography channels and that region of the world seems to be a favourite for that.
Yea, it's awesome to hang out with cool steemians.

Yes, Asians looove taking pictures it seems. Yesterday in my favorite café a couple came in and took pictures and when I left - more than an hour later - they were still busy with that. I think they didn’t even order anything LOL

I have to adapt more to the Asian culture I think 😄

ahhh you're describing me! I hate vlogging in public alone. I feel super awkward, and at home I'm super at ease (although not when I first started). If I have a partner in crime vlogging with me outside in public I don't mind it, it's fun, but by myself I just feel like everyone is staring LOL

Everyone IS staring.. especially with that bump 😂😂

😂 yeah now it’s even worse lol

hahahaha.

I don’t mind vlogging in public. But I’m very shy.

Yes you said :) That's what I mean haha.

Yes. I'm proud that you were bold and able to come out and talk about the issue of China blocking common internet sites and Steemit. People have to know about these things.

Thanks for your kind words. Their censorship their rules, our dtube our rules.

Really like this vid man!!!! I think you're right!!! collabs are always the way forward!! I guess it also makes 'that subconscious brain filter' kick in too, because its put into context of talking to someone who can respond, which a camera wil never do. You are very adapt at talking to cam tho!!! very natural!! As someone who doesnt even like pics without sunglasses(haha), I got nuff respect for you!!
Can totally relate to it being more tense where you live tho!! Gigs on my home turf are always the most nerve shredding!!!!

OMG I can imagine. People you knew growing up may turn up to your gigs haha.

Same for me with just being in front of the camera, it took me a LOT of videos before I loosened up.

The key is to keep improving I guess. Nice one.

I had a lot of fun as well and now launching I agree that combined vibes makes it easier. I am more relaxed with someone around than just me talking to some unknown friends on the other side of the camera. Love the project you come up with and see you soonish

Looks like you had a lot of fun together, guys :) And some useful advice in the video too! We already had a little conversion on taking photos of people in the streets, which is still something I find very uncomfortable and I think vlogging in public is actually a few levels up so I might never even try :D But it is ok - I think we all have are own styles, preferences, ways of doing things... :)

Btw, while @joythewanderer is a certainly a big name in the world of Steem video production, my pick of the most confident public vlogger would be Dan @world-travel-pro - this guy has absolutely no restraints, no matter where he films. I remember he actually almost got beaten by some dudes while filming in Ireland :D

Wow, that's crazy. I hope he stays safe :)

No wonder she was so excited earlier today in her vlog today. Hmmm...

Well I was shy when I started but I am a bit confident but I need to work on my delivery.

About vlogging in public hell no! My heart will sink. But I think it would be doable if I am with someone else. Might try this though. Lemme go find me my tedora

This is my case, I feel like I have a lot to share, but Im shy

You are not alone. You can try recording a video and not upload it. Just get comfortable in front of a camera first. That may help.

great video man. and solid advice.

i’m ok with blogging in public but there are times i just feel odd speaking to a camera that’s recording me lol it’s weird and i can see how people react when they see you talking to yourself.

but alas. it’s for the audience right lol have to find a vlogging buddy to do these videos next time.

Yeah haha. I also did an experiment some time back. If you use a phone, and you hold it vertically, people don't stare. They assume you're on a FaceTime/Skype call to someone. The moment you turn the phone horizontally (landscape mode), BOOM! the entire street turns to look at you hahaha. I don't know why. I'd rather make video calls in landscape mode anyway but the streets wont let me 😩

Inspiring to hear you say you consider yourself an introvert as being one myself I cannot fathom the thought of creating dtube content and much less in public. However, hearing and seeing you is giving me that itch to eventually try it. Thanks for sharing!

I think a lot of people feel this way. You'd be surprised how many DTubers that appear very confident are actually quite shy and introverted in real life.

3.33 people do that to me all the time - -

That't because you're so hot Mo.

just couldn't deny that.. Bwhahaa lol jk!

I guess i was at first shy also when i wanted to start vlogging some time ago but when i watched some people videos, i just suddenly developed confidence in myself

That's great! I think video is the future and everyone should at least try.

Good advices & pretty interesting topic :) I like the part where you described the mastermind joining you both. That's kind of really spiritual :P

I for myself feel like you - I am confident in my own space or a totally different place. But in my own hood - I am shy as hell and it feels like making the first step as a tightrope walker or something like that.. I don't know ^^ but it feels good to be not alone with that and to see that also you needed some practice to achieve what you are today :)

Peace!

Yes it is :) . There's something that happens when two (or more) minds meet.
Yeah, it's been a bit of a struggle, but after a while it becomes easier.

Resteemed. Thanks for this alert @adetorrent. I really cant tell how it is at your end but it looks so serious here in Ghana. Doing public photography is even more dangerous just as vlogging. Most Ghanaians hate to see people taking photos of them and it is completely out of the topic to see you making videos of them or around them. We really try t sometimes hide in doing so but tree to get the best of what to share with the world. Big ups to @joythewanderer as well.

I think that's the same across West Africa. I think people are still very concerned about privacy and personal space. There's also the history of exploitation - where people have come to "photograph" communities and then gone to do something else with the photos.

I think it's probably easier for people from outside the culture who visit and are unaware of the way video/photography is frowned upon, unlike someone like yourself who would be really sensitive to it.

Yeh bro, you're definitely onto something there. I still vlog in public, and I manage well for the best part. There sometimes is anxiety, but I push through it. I noticed thoigh when I was out vlogging with @kevinli, that I genuinely didn't give a frack what anyone thought. I'd love to see some more of East London too, next time you're out and about. I really have so little recall of it.
Peace.

Oh yea... it's def all about the collabing ;)

So what video are you guys making eh eh????

You have to turn on your NSFW switch to see it :D

Ahhh sweet... something for after the kids go to bed then :P

Vlogging is still magic to me, I’ve tried but just wasn’t too good at it. Excellent advice though man. Maybe a partner could put me over the hump
