CHRISTMAS RECIPE - POTATO HERRING SALAD - VIDEO

in dtube •  7 years ago

Pickled herring with boiled potato and onion, served as staple food in Russia and Latvia for centuries. We cannot imagine Midsummer or Christmas celebrations without it. And it is still usually served the old, pickled way. This is a recipe for the more Baltic-style herring, which is first pickled and then serves as a starter - zakuska with a shot of vodka. The sliced red onion give a lovely crunchy texture. Perfect for a picnic, or enjoyed as a starter, this makes an appetising alternative to the standard potato salad. Tasty, inexpensive and easy to prepare, this dish make a satisfying choice.

Ingredients :
1 large potatoes
1 red onion
1 fillets of herring or 1 whole
Half of lemon ( juice)
Fresh parsley or dill
1 tbsp of sunflower or vegetable oil
Salt, sugar and pepper ( per your liking)

Good job good video :) so nice keep going :)

Simple and looks really good!

I'll be trying this out for sure! Can you use pickled herring that comes in the jar - or would it be best to use fresh herring?

Nom nom nom, herring and onion in oil and I need nothing else! My mom used to prep it and serve it on a very pretty plate so it is my fav. And I forgot about your salmon recipe with honey and cooked salmon differently :( Will have to wait until next time.

Also, I found that pickled onions take that burning feeling and add more depth to the dish :)

ummm good
