Turkey confirms purchase of Russian S-400 missile despite US pressure

Turkey is quite important strategically. With it's air space sitting right between the middle east and Europe and it also controlling the Bosporus, the only sea access to the Black Sea.

If the US would have to vacate all military bases in Turkey and circumvent Turkish air space it would be quite a hassle for the US. Also it would strengthen Russia, because a complete alienation from the US would for sure end in Turkey joining the Russia/China/Iran block and leaving NATO. I'm quite sure that's something the US is not interested in happening.

That is quite a strong hand for Turkey to play and so far Turkey plays it's cards well. What I'm interested in is where they will put their money if they are forced into making a final decision.

A couple years ago I'd seen little chance of the US forcing the issue, but these days the US abandoned all diplomatic etiquette and are black mailing countries openly left and right, no matter if ally or foe.
