Frank Hasenfratz is a Canadian billionaire who as a Hungarian refugee built Linamar, one of the most efficient auto parts manufacturers in the world. I visited him in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and spend a day with him talking about his success secrets. In this video I reveal his approach to adversity that made him so extremely successful in business.

Hi guys. Some time ago I went to Canada to talk to the billionaire Frank Hasenfratz.
Of course, I wanted to extract the secrets of his success, his thinking method, his approach to business, to life, his perspective, and so on.
And after the interview I recorded a video where I explained what Frank told me about adversity.
And today I want to share this video with you. See you in the next part.
[Music]
Hi and welcome from Gueplh, Ontario, Canada. Behind me the headquarter of Linamar - an auto parts manufacture with 6 billion dollars of revenue
This company is considered one of the most innovative, most tech-savvy and of course most profitable companies in the car industry.
I was interviewing the owner - mr. Frank Hasenfratz. He is a self-made billionaire, a very nice guy. He also owns Skyjack.
Skyjack is world leader in scissor platforms. I want to tell you now what I learned about adversity from Frank Hasenfratz.
His life is full of ups and downs. He was expelled or he had to flee from Hungary where he was born and landed in Canada with virtually no money
And nevertheless he managed to build very successful company with 25,000 employees, with over 50 factories in several countries on 3 continents
And what he told me was never take the adversity, never take the setbacks, your failure as a bad fortune because you never know what's gonna happen later
What is gonna come out of that and he gave me several examples. Of course, possesions of his family, their house, farm, animals... they were farmers
Was confiscated because had German origins and after the world war everything German was prosecuted in Hungary.
So, his family was prosecuted and all their goods were confiscated and they were displaced, they had to start with zero. His parents with 5 children.
So, it looked like really bad faith but then his father came to realization everybody needs to learn a trade.
Because when you learn a trade they can't take it away from you. This is something you have in you. And then you will always be able to sustain your life
That's why he got an education as a tool maker which later led to his know-how in the industry, which led to his knowledge
And to the ability to build up and operate a factory, and then to build such a business.
Then later he participated in Hungarian revolution and he had to flee the country because otherwise they would probably execute him or imprison him.
Because the revolution fell apart and Russians won and he had to flee the country. It was bad faith. He had to drop all his friends and family
To abandon his future in the country but this allowed him to come to Canada which, on the other hand, allowed him to build a huge, very successful company
In a free economy, which he wouldn't have chance in Hungary. So, again, a blow of faith made it possible for him. So, you never know what happnes next.
And the next example is when he got fired. It looked like bad faith. He had expenses, good job at the factory in the profession he loved and liked
And he was very proficient in, but somehow he got fired because of his disobidience, you can say. So, you would say "What a bad faith!"
Nobody want to be without a job. ut this gave him an opportunity to start the business on his own, to actually subcontract some of the parts
They were manufacturing in the factory he was working for and to manufacture them much cheaper because he just had better know-how and organization
Than the factory he was working for, which he didn't liked. So, you see again. Abad faith led to founding of his business.
So, if you put all these things together, these are just 3 examples but in his life it was always like that, several times, over and over
Also in later business career. You shouldn't see your bad faith as something which can stop you. You can always see the upside and use the upside
Of what happens around you. So, it's not about what happens to you, it's about what you do abobut that.
So, that's what I have learned from one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Canada and in the world, a self-made billionaire Frank Hasenfratz.
