99 % Of ico will be dumbed in a few minutes or hours, and will be wiser to buy them after the dumb probably same if not cheaper than ico price. Bearing in mind as well how much appreciation you can lose in the ico funding token that we will pay and lock for few weeks or months until the coin distribution will be done. Last but not least ... investing in a project only in white paper is not the smartest idea otherwise it is backed by an already big organization ... that’s my humble opinion which is subject to argue of course .

I am new to ICO's, and I have witnessed that many tokens are valued at a much higher price at the beginning. Then right away the price drops tremendously based on charts tools such as Tradingview. Is this observation correct or is it because the charting tool did not have enough historical data?

the high price you see which falled is when the token hit the exchange. in good icos it should not happen like that ( very few as I mentioned), but the common scenario in average ico ( even still kind of good project) still getting to dumb. the project. How much the dumb depends how much speculators not real investors hyped and entred the ico. they dont care about the project on the long run , they want to get an opportunity and run away.... may be some people know what will happen so they prefer to dumb their bags on high price and then load them up again at a cheaper price.

I would look at the bonus rate of an ico.
Usually if they have a high bonus rate (bonus for buying during ico) , like 50% bonus then you can be pretty sure that people will dump those right away to make some of their investment back.
Most Ico with over 30% bonus in ico, i will probably wait for them to hit the exchange and then buy in a the dumped price.

While this is true, I do not look at it as a forecasting tool because the true drive of any market is its fundamentals. Since Last year, Three ICOs I participated in were LATOKEN, ATL, and Power ledger. I know I missed the great chance to get like Enigma or ICON. I guess I made some profits with one out of three. ATL is still struggling for 3 months. LATOKEN is just moving a little bit considering I invested 1.9 ETH. So, I had 33.333% of having good investments on ICO so far.
But my conclusion from my experience is this.
No more ICO. And here's why.
I am not a good speculator. I read through all white papers, and those white papers were totally good or great. Some of them are too good to be true. Think about it. Who's going to write nonsense on their white paper? Yes, some of them are more persuasive than others. Some of them are really promising than others.
So what? do I need to look through a crystal ball? Do I really understand their goal and related industry? Do I really know their technical jargon? I don't have computer science background. Do I really hope their project touch the goal line? How should I know? How should I understand without meeting or actually visiting their business? Without getting explanations from other news, blog or you tubers, I mean, it's utterly impossible to look through their situation. Only reading white papers and their team and their advisors' profile does not give me the full confident.
So I decide not to participate any ICO any more. Moreover I do not like the people who want to make easy money through ICO when they start their business. Furthermore, it is prohibited unless you are qualified investors. I know the SEC rule is suck.
But I asked myself if it is worth it. My conclusion is No.
It's more easier for me to analyze their performance and their progress. One or two steps behind from others doesn't necessary mean that I cannot make money. I guess I make enough money from investing cryptos because I have been investing very promising and healthy Coins and Tokens. Now, to me, Investing uncredited ICO is worse than speculating or betting on rat race. Even worse, a paid ICO promotor youtuber's story made me upset.
I fully understand you may dislike or hate my opinion. But I am just one of those ray men.
Some of you want to participate in any ICOs, and I am not against ICO or asking you not to do that. But I simply do not want to be involved
One of my great success investment without participating ICO is ADA. I invested on ADA when the price was $0.02, and I am just happy about my decision. I do not want to be greedy.
My last comment is just be cautious. If you do not have any confidence on a certain ICO, you don't want wasting your precious money.
