After starting off with a small scale nursery on the farm that focuses on specialized plants such as medicinal plants and herbs, I delved a bit deeper into various ways of plant propagation. This lead to being approached by some local farmers who offered me some consignment work of propagating plants for them in order to expand their crops.

In this video we look at some simple propagation that is done from passion-fruit or granadilla cuttings.

There are many advantages to growing from cuttings in stead of seed. Firstly you are cloning the mother-plant, this means that you will have a replica of the plant that you have taken the cutting from, so you can select healthy plants that offer a decent yield of good quality fruit and clone that. Another advantage is that the time to maturity of the plants grown from cuttings is extremely faster than it would be than growing the plants from seeds, and this means that you will be able to harvest your first fruit so much sooner, this is something that is of high importance especially in the agricultural sector.
