What is intermittent fasting?
Well to put it simply intermittent fasting is just the idea of only eating your calories within a certain window of time - although the amount of calories you eat does not change. For example some people follow a 18-6 split where you fast for 18 hours each day and eat for a 6 hour window. This could be a window of eating from 4-10 PM and the rest of the time you do not eat at all.
This seems crazy but many studies have been done that show there is not difference in fat loss results due to the timing of when you eat your meals. This means that you can eat whenever you want, whether that three meals a day of 100% of your meals in one giant meal at the end of the night - it makes no difference. The greatest advantage for IF (intermittent fasting) is that during your fasting window, you have a lot more time to focus on working or just having more free time. This style works well for people who don't have time to cook good foods in the day and also because you are so busy working in the daytime it'll be easier to ignore the slight hunger you experience while dieting.
I like to set my IF up so that I'm eating all of my calories in the last 4 hours before I go to bed so that by the time I start eating I'm STARVING but by the end of the feast I'm really full and satisfied, which allows me to sleep easily whereas when I'm hungry I can't sleep.
This is a HUGE tip for some and for others it makes no difference as this won't fit your lifestyle. I just wanted to present it as an option as I had never heard it when I first got into fitness and I imagine alot of my Steem family hasn't either!
Hope you enjoyed this, thanks for supporting with upvotes and follows - you guys rock!

Great article. Many people try to praise IF as some superior strategy to loosing fat fast, it really isnt. As you already pointed out!
There is no inherent advantage in IF than to toher eating " Strategies". AS you said too, it only helps you to focus on other things during the day than eating. (After a couple of days of habituation/accustoming).
Keep the good blog posts coming Brian!!!

yeah, IF is great. But it is not like you have to keep the 8hour eating window. Sometimes you can do more and sometimes you can do less of a fasting period. You just gotta listen to your body and go after how you feel that day. Sometimes i even manage to get away with a 3 hour eating window a day, but most of the days i don´t.

IF is awesome. I skip breakfast and I feel I have much more energy + productivity. I save a ton of time in the morning which allow me to focus on most important tasks

Yup!
Intermittent fasting increases fat metabolism (especially the killer- visceral fat) and will help with brain function.
I'll have an indeapth artical about this. But Great Job. Keep it up!

I´m not sure about the boosting fat metabolism thing. Because if studies havent shown, at least up until now, that IF helps in loosing more fat than having no restriction in meal timing, that means there is no advantage in IF and therefore also no boosting of the fat metabolism. If it would boost fat metabolism there would be studies showing a difference between losing fat while IF and non-IF.
But i would love to read your article on this point though. Be sure to tag me in the comments pls ;)

"We report that when C57BL/6 mice are maintained on an intermittent fasting..."
--> Mice. I do no doubt beneficial effects of IF on the human body, but dont reference a study about mice when talking about human beings lol

And i also believe that the benefiting function of IF on body functions is only shown in rats/animals and not yet in human beings. But as i already said in my other comment. I´d love to read your article on this.

Alright, With in the near future I'll write a piece with references.
Point of advice, your body is an adaptive organism. Therefore these studies will reference internal validity and little external validity.
That's something you should consider. Even if you have set up a stud; it will never reflect an individuals reaction to the regime/food/exercise.
Why not? Simply because our bodies reaction to a specific stimulus is not solely based on what is taken/done. It's a whole life endeavor. Be sure to understand that personalized everything will be a thing.
Hope to get on this asap.

I am studying biology at university so i know that the body is an adaptive organism. But, i can say things and say that they are true if there actually are studies (with good studysetup of course)and a body of evidence for it. Your are trying to tell me that if there is a body of evidence showing that IF doesnt boost fat metabolism and is not significantly superior to any other "eating method" (sry i dont know any better word for this, as i am not a native englisch speaker) it doesnt apply to people that didnt participate in the study? so, for you studies dont show anything and are completely useless? I don´t think so.
Maybe after reading your article with references to the things that you are trying to prove and point out, maybe i will change my mind.

Eventhough the body is an adaptive organism, that doesnt change any humans biochemic reactions within the bodies. Of course if every human would react to one stimulus in another way studies wouldnt show anything, but as we are all humans and live by the same principles and all the same biochemical reactions studies can and should be applied to the real world/external world and have external validity.

Think of it as changing the fuel rather than "boosting the metabolism". for example HIIT uses glycogen from the blood and muscles at a higher percentage than beta-oxidation. With that being said you'll still burn more fat (24-36 hours after exercising).
This just means your basal metabolic rate changes its source of fuel.
Epigenetics, and repsonses as a result of enviromental influences plays a huge role.
I'm a molecular kinesiologist.
I'll write something soon with the appropriate references- when I get the chance.
This is just referencing how personalized medicine is the way to go.
