Hi Steem Fam!
I’ve got another crypto news update for you guys. In the last few days, it’s been big news that the University of Malta will now be offering a masters degree in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology.
Here are my thoughts on why Malta is starting a really important trend in higher education to help advance the crypto space.

The issue with a formal education in a blockchain standpoint is if it's a 3-4 year degree by the time you complete it the information is already outdated. The place moves too fast, yes it's nice to have a background in it and get you in the door with a piece of paper but the real value will be in shorter courses in concepts and languages, not long term education in my opinion.
Blockchain will be big and I can see why people want to formalise it, they just need to also make sure their product adapts to the times. Plenty of educational products don't provide the consumer with enough value to substantiate the price they charge

Unless it's a software development course involving creating a blockchain, it's probably not going to be all that useful. I wouldn't go for it, myself.

While it's true a blockchain course or minor would do some favours to the common people gradually, I'm more concerned with the age issue: most of us aren't entrepeneurs for many particular reasons and countries with both growing unemployment lines and low salaries this may take a little more time to catch on than expected, especially for middle aged older people who in our economies rarely get another job even in another field.
I truly hope blockchain gets easier to understand for the general public so trusted universities can take measures right now.

This is really interesting news.
It's a recognition from education providers that there is a need in the market for people with the relevant official qualifications in blockchain technology and business.
As the blockhain thing becomes more and more established as a practice in transactions among businesses and individuals, this type qualification could become the benchmark for the banks of the future, in order for them to hire their staff.
From what I have read on the University's website from the link that you provided in the article, this is a postgraduate course for ICT, Business and Law degree holders. The course coordinator is Dr Joshua Ellul who is computer scientist, so there will be a strong ICT element in the course.
That could the start for other universities to follow, since I believe there is plenty of room for research and development in this field.
