Good talk Derrick. It's definitely getting scarier.
As far as taking action, that's a hard thing to get people to do. If I tell someone I will do something for $100 that will make them $1000 every month, and show them examples of having done it before, I don't get an easy yes.
I have to be very strategic in my approach, I have to say the right things the right way. I have to know that person, talk them a certain way.
"Drop everything, spend your hard-earned free time fighting the powers that be. Come stand outside with a sign and put your ass on the line."
Doesn't sound fun or profitable to me. You're expecting people to run on moral gasoline, which is a great way to be disappointed. The government understands that. They offer all kinds of goodies to do the wrong thing.
If people aren't doing it then they don't think it's worth their time, on a fundamental level. Or they don't think it's effective. The peace of mind of "I'm taking action" isn't enough for most people.
My point is that if people aren't acting, it's not because they don't take freedom seriously, it's because they DO take it seriously. They don't give up their time easily or freely. And they shouldn't.
The government is putting cancerous microwave cannons in front of every home, while cancer is at an epidemic level, in exchange for, "internet gets a little faster". Think about that.
The rules are the same for you and the government. Speak the right language if you want to communicate or influence action.
unfortunately, I think you over estimate people's desire to be free

You're the expert here on that. You've spent a lot of time doing it. I was trying to point out a point of frustration for you. Something I hear in your speeches. My expertise is I seek out business owners who hire me to make them more money.
They almost never use what I give them. They don't even try it. I can explain why it works, how it's worked in the past, and give them a guarantee if it doesn't work. 9/10 times they won't bother with it. Why?
I can say, "Maybe they don't care about making money?"
But fellow copywriters will tell me that the problem was in my pitch. I've seen guys who can sell anything to anyone in person. And it doesn't look any different than a jedi waving his hand. I'm sure you've experienced this before.
I don't like seeing you say that people don't want to be free bad enough because that thinking does absolutely no good for you. It only limits you.
You've got a barrier, I can see it, maybe I'm no good at pointing it out to you. Just saying.

Correct me if I'm wrong @cosimo but it seems you are pointing out an issue of framing.
One man's razor knife, is another man's cardboard box opener.
Weapon vs tool.
That bolded text in your first message above, is effective because it highlights the problem in a direct, visceral way.
Anyone reading that, can't help but feel a connection to what's being said and a call to take action. I can see it. If you can develop a process to let him see what you see, it might be very helpful.

@evernoticethat yes, I'm not arguing against his cause or anything idealogical.
Journalists and activists often become disheartened when their message isn't sinking in or getting the desired response. It's human nature to think that the reason for that is that nobody cares. Or there is some idealogical issue.
I'm saying that's not the case. It's something as simple as "how you say it".
I'm sure Derrick has experienced this. He preaches something for months or longer, no one seems to react, and then someone else comes along and says the same thing, one time, and everyone's all about it.
Derrick always puts his heart into what he does. And people feel that. But everyone handles feelings differently.
Some might whip into action, some might curl into a ball, some might become angry at the messenger...
