#Znap How Do I Keep Images Transparent On My iPhone 6s When Using iCloud Backup? - D00k13 Digest 207

in dtube •  6 years ago

What up my Steemians, welcome to the @D00k13 Digest, this will be my first #Znap for the #DTubeFamily777 on my 207th vlog. Out driving for SkipTheDishes today this one is completely done while on the go, been a very consistent work day but not crazy busy which is nice.

I have been having an issue as of late using my iPhone 6s with images being saved to iCloud backup not remaining with transparent backgrounds when I reload them. I have tried saving them in the highest PNG quality possible as the size of the image is not a concern but this has not solved the problem. I typically use PhotoFox which has jpeg75, jpeg95, PNG, TIFF and 1MP - Max for file options but I have not been able to figure out which will remain transparent after reloading from backup. The issue only seems to affect the files that are needing to be downloaded from iCloud as for the first few hours on my iPhone they will remain useable, till now I have just been deleting and redownloading copies as necessary but now I am trying to organize some of my images and that process is becoming a pain in the @$$!!! Having learned on the fly from mostly mobile this is one thing I have never fully understood, if you could enlighten a little it would be appreciated! A good example of an image I am having this trouble with is the #DTubeFamily777 logo by @Zainenn or even the @OneLoveDTube heart which oddly seems to happen less often than most others.

Questions:

  • How do I keep the images transparent even when loading from iCloud backup?
  • Is there a setting somewhere on my iPhone I am over looking?
  • Do I need to use a different editor? Is it as simple as TIFF even though the file size is massive?
  • Why do the images get converted into a white background when loading from a iCloud backup in the first place?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!?!?

Thats it @d00k13 OUT

Hello @d00k13. This is a problem for a lot of people if not all. The only thing I can do is to suggest a temporary "fix" because it's nothing that we're doing wrong. It's iCloud. What you should do is to go into the iCloud photo library and turn off the "optimize" option. This will temporarily tell iCloud to accept the transparency but this only works for the newer images not the older ones. I hope this helps until somebody comes up with an app or something that will fix this problem. (If what I suggested doesn't work, maybe you should search for an app that could solve that problem.) Until then.... peace out.

I think that answers my question! Somehow I over looked that setting under photos, as it says on optimize “backup and keep device sized copies” now on original quality it says it will keep the original photo but I may run into issues as iCloud storage is way bigger then my iPhone storage.....

I will keep you posted, thank you for the feedback 💪

No prob.

I'm afraid this one is beyond me as I use an Android phone for footage and do all my editing on a desktop computer.

Good luck finding the answer though.

Thanks my friend, joys of using Apple products 🤦‍♂️

I think what if the image is stored on a memory card, and maybe can replace the iphone with another brand, and look for high-quality applications in editing photos, I also experienced the same thing.

This is actually a better suggestion than mine if you are looking at a permanent fix, but it requires some investment. I didn't know if you wanted to go that route. Thank you for mentioning this @ustazkarim

In future I will, I want to know the cause of the problem and if there is a solution available without investment but I do plan to upgrade my phone with one having much more space possibly switching to android for ease of use also.

Thinking about picking up a cheap memory backup case, put only my important images on it and hopefully solve the problem if the keep originals option does not solve it 💪

Sounds like a plan to me~

Alright so a little further research, it’s an issue of iCloud specifically when redownloading to mobile. I can work around by going through PC though so the images are stored correctly, looks like a memory case is the best option for now.

Yes that is correct. So far, this is the only way to get around it if you're using icloud.

Why exactly is it that you need to continuously upload and download PNG files from icloud? Are you creating these files in Photoshop originally? This must take a very long time, I would imagine.

The issue comes from a lack of space from recording and editing videos on mobile, I have no issues with the video clips from backup only the older images I have saved when pushed off the phone. I pretty well never use my pc as it’s a big hunk of junk and very slow, I have a better selection of editing apps for mobile also.

I wish there was a way of selecting files to keep on phone rather then it constantly pushing all of them off. For now the keep originals option will work but I will have to delete my video files or figure a way of having them only available from iCloud after backup has happened.

I see. If this is what we're looking at, I bet I have an idea. If you download the Photoshop Express app from the Play Store, it keeps PNG files the way you want them. This lightweight app creates a new folder on your image section. It would be impossible for those pictures to be pushed off, I'm pretty sure. This is what the app looks like. I use it every day for cropping, editing and such things. For me, I don't know what I would do without this app. As you said,
everything these days is fast pace and has to be done on the phone. Maybe I can do a tutorial on the app so others can benefit as well. It's quite easy to use but has lots of functions.

Yea I have been considering using a memory backup for my iPhone but I’m also trying to solve the issue so I have some understanding of what is happening to pass on for others. The only issue with a memory backup is having to connect when I want to use the stored images, I like iCloud backup works fairly well and quick just the issue of the transparency with images.

Can’t quite afford a new phone yet, maybe by the end of the year but lesson learned get the most storage space possible this time 😅

As for the app I’m seeing if TIFF files will have an issue when being backed up to iCloud, so far so good along with selecting keep originals as @gungho mentioned
