Watch Reading with Luke - Episode 2 video on DTube
Since Luke was born we have always read books to him. Since he could crawl he would work his way over to the bookshelf and pull all of his books out. We used to catch him sitting and reading to himself. Well he may have just been making up words and sounds as he flipped the pages but to him at that early age, this is what he thought reading was.
Luke was a late talker but once he started talking this kid would not stop. I think the repetition of reading the same books over and over helped him learn words before he could even speak them. I think it also helped out his vocabulary as there are animals, shapes, colours, and everyday items that are in the children’s books that he would not normally see in his daily activities.
Now that Luke is five years old his reading level has definitely impressed me. He is reading Level 3 books and often requires little to no help with words. The most impressive thing about it is that Luke goes to a French First Language school so he does not learn any English phonetics or words while at school.
On this episode of Reading with Luke you finally get to see my handsome face and I share an old video of Luke when he was one reading a book to himself.
Hope you enjoy!

People tend to think that kids wouldn't learn to read unless the school taught them. This is untrue and homeschoolers like myself know this well. Your son is adorable.
